I literally started swearing and clutching my chest when the Belgium/Canada moment happened, because I SHHHHIIIPPP. I ship Canada with pretty much everyone (patriotism taken to an extreme?) and I may have sort have wanted to crush America for calling Ukraine a whore. XDD Ukraine/Canada(/Netherlands :DD) is like my third favourite Hetalia pairing. Awesome work, as always! ;D

I didn't cry because it wasn't really sad just hurtful and at the end I actually felt a clenching in my crest. But all and all it was amazing how much emotion into this.

I think a part of me died after I read this. But it is definately one of the best fics I've read and the first one I actually want to write a review for. This story got me very... Emotional. I like it for I don't get this feeling often. It's bitter-sweet and makes me want to cry.

I was actually looking for some sweet CanadaAmerica fluff, and the first part made me go 'd'ahwwww.' Then I realized it was going to be more of a sad story, but I couldn't stop reading, I was captivated!

Well done. I love how you went about your progression with their relationship and the historical references re: the US and Britain's struggle to maintain control over the Americas (aka Canada).

As a side note: I always wished someone would write a hetalia fic based on those old editorial cartoons from the 1860's with ever-so-loyal Miss Canada, noble Mother Britannia and sleazy Uncle Jonathan, who's trying so hard to snatch Miss Canada away from Mother Britannia's protection. This was the closest one so far.

There was an article that was published a couple of years ago that reminded me of this... wherein a poll came out and said 4 out of 10 Americans (40% of the 1000 Americans interviewed) were in favour of annexing Canada... in comparison to similar poll with Canadians interviewed, almost 80% of Canadians completely rejected the proposition (as expected).

Of course, because there hasn't been a historical push for the US to annex Canada since the late 1800's, the article blames the result of the American poll simply because of curiousity, as Americans have become more accepting of the differences between our cultures as of late, and that manifest destiny crap has pretty much died a long time ago.

A Canada-US relations guy in the US side mentions that the high minority of Americans who are supporting the annexation of Canada was "an indication of goodwill and welcome towards Canadians should the government ever decide on its own that it wants to join the United States."

A US politics professor from McGill University replied: "I doubt if the average American knows enough about Canada to make a reasoned assessment, what the pros and cons might be. There's really an abysmal level of ignorance about Canada in the United States so I don't know what conclusions you can reach."

In hetalia terms... "Alfred is simply exhibiting his inability to read the atmosphere"
