Reviews for Return Of The Rising Sun
Rose1948 chapter 6 . 5/20/2013
Very nice! I always had a "thing" for helicopters since the old "Whirlybirds" TV show way back when. Then when "Airwolf" came out, I was in heaven. The HELL with the eye candy! I wanted the helicopter! *chuckles*

Nicely done. I just finished "The Second Voyage of the Seventh Carrier" and was impressed. Yeah, there were things that the editors missed but DAMN was the premise of the story enthralling. Your story buoys up what I read in the first two books of the series.

Take care and thanks for sharing.

I really enjoyed your story a lot, I like how you came up with the plot which caught my attention and I just had to read it. :D
Pyeknu chapter 1 . 5/28/2011
By the way, there's some good news now: There is officially a "Seventh Carrier series" category in the Books section of the website here. Therefore, you can reclassify the story as a crossover between Airworf and the Seventh Carrier series if you so desire.
WhiteBlazingPhoenix chapter 6 . 3/3/2011
Enjoyed this from start to finish! It felt like an Airwolf/The Final Countdown crossover. Big kudos on keeping String, Dom and Archangel in character, I could see them saying what you wrote for them. I think you would have done well writing episodes for the TV series. )
Pyeknu chapter 5 . 1/6/2011
BTW, the proper response in Japanese in either the affirmative or negative (depending on context) is "Hai," not "Hei."
Pyeknu chapter 6 . 12/13/2010
I've long wondered when someone would finally do a fanfic on "The Seventh Carrier" series. Nicely done.
Lady Razorsharp chapter 6 . 10/11/2010
A very inventive story, full of lavish details. I might have to look up 'The Seventh Carrier' and read more about the Yonaga and her extraordinary crew...Very plausible connection with Airwolf and Co. Enjoyed it!

Banzai!
Jazzcat chapter 2 . 10/2/2010
An alternate universe! Very clever. Opening portals between similar worlds with different timelines gives you virtually endless possibilities. I have to wonder if the Philadelphia Project was real, or if you made that up? What's the story behind the story?

I'm also very curious about the story behind the Yonaga tale. Forty-two years, trapped in ice! Fishing in the Bering Sea (which was spelled "Bearing Sea" in the chapter, by the way) and some vigorous exercise! Very, very nice. In addition, people who live in colder climates (and on diets of fish) are purported to live longer.

Hawke is fearless. Asking if they all escaped from the loony bin wasn't the brightest idea. But it was a valid question, and I admire him for thinking on his feet - even to the point of concocting a wild theory that centered around stealing Airwolf.

Interesting, elevating Kadafi to a much more threatening figure in this story. Once again, I love your grip on history! It's awesome.

And just like that, in ONE chapter, you've managed to solve the out-of-time mystery and put Los Angeles at risk for a 9-11-style attack. The swiftness with which you advanced this plot keeps a powerful grip on the reader.

One more question: What does "Banzai" mean?

And now, for Hawke and Dom, they only have to convince these guys to let Airwolf be part of the defense force - since you effectively crippled LA's communications with that electromagnetic pulse. LOVE IT. That makes this small group LA's only hope, just like that.

Great chapter, JJ.

Jazzcat chapter 1 . 9/27/2010
Whoa, an Electromagnetic Pulse attack? I saw an article on that a few years back in Popular Mechanics - a whole article about how to build an electromagnetic bomb. For under $400. The magazine included picture diagrams and such detailed descriptions of the bomb's inner workings that *I* could have built one. I was ticked. How stupid could they be? Thanks a lot, PM.

Nevertheless, it made excellent material for an explosive thriller!

I know nothing about Airwolf, so I felt like a fish out of water for the first few paragraphs - just struggling to wrap my mind around what was going on! But, in remarkably short order, you brought the readers up to date on the helicopter and both Dominic and Stringfellow. From there, it was up to me to "wing" it. *grins*

Hawke's immediate thoughts on "Guess That Bad Guy" and the motivations behind rioters were fantastic. So were his concerns about the trawlers and cargo ships being more than they immediately appeared.

Holy crud, Zeros and ships straight out of World War II! Hawke's logic for following the Zeros - regardless of the risks - was impeccable. I had to greatly commend his courage when he stepped out of the helicopter when the aircraft carrier deck flooded with armed Japanese soldiers, all carrying rifles.

Beautiful descriptions of the aircraft, ships, gun complements, and these very interesting people. A living mummy, indeed! Now I'm wondering why both Japanese and American soldiers are in one spot - seemingly straight out of the past, what with their observations on the Airwolf and their allegiance to the Emperor; but strangely allied. You have me hooked!

These two lines summed up my thoughts on the story perfectly:

"I'm almost afraid to ask if this can get any weirder," Santini commented.

"I have a bad feeling it will."

Ooooooo...this is interesting!

I'm not that familiar with Airwolf...but I see you've read the Seventh Carrier series! The Yonaga sails again! Way cool!

Very nice job...and you've given me the impetus to write a crossover I once had in my head about nine years ago when a good friend gave me his copies of the Seventh Carrier series...

Have to read this and see what you do with it. BTW, I love the O'Bannon HP universe stories you write, too. Great job!
