Beautiful. This was beautiful. I loved your repetition of "no one knew why" and how sweet and gentle Kenshin is. You really captured his personality, his selflessness, his generosity, and of course, his feelings towards Kaoru. I like to think he knew she was awake when he came into her room, that this was a confession of love that he won't make in the daylight. But even if not, it was still beautiful. Good job.

such a moving piece. one can imagine such a scene. kenshin stopping at her room to make sure she was okay knowing she had been disturbed by yahiko's upset -one guesses that was the first time she was awake to hear the endearment.
