I started rewatching Life on Mars this weekend for the first time in the best part of a decade and have been reminded of everything I loved so much about that world before the finale (I don’t think I’m the only person the Ashes to Ashes finale spoiled the magic for) and it drew me back here, to rediscover the fanfic I’d devoured as a teenager. This story was always a favourite and has stayed in my head over the years. It was the first story I sought out to reread and it’s drawn me in all over again. I’ve wondered from time to time over the years whether your Lucy Hunt ever managed to succeed where her mother failed and change her future by fixing the past and I’ve always rooted for her. I like to think that perhaps she finds a way and it all works out, somehow, for her, though I’d never presume to try and figure out how such a thing might be achieved. I love how you wrote Alex and Gene’s relationship too, they crackle in the background as much as they always did on screen. The Will Young moment always makes me smile for what it hints at, the potential for Lucy to learn her mother’s time travelling secrets tantalising but without distracting from the main weight of the narrative. And gosh, I’d forgotten entirely that Sam makes an appearance in the last chapter — the frisson of excitement at seeing him again after a day spent watching again the entire first series of Life on Mars! His double life, his second death, the whole mystery that surrounds him, all are brilliantly introduced and I feel Lucy’s confusion entirely. I hope life is treating you well and thank you for Lucy Hunt — as bleak as her life has become, she is my favourite and certainly the most memorable of the various Galex children I remember from the fanfics of my teens. She lives in my head alongside other beloved fictional characters now, alongside her parents, and when I take moments to imagine them, they are together and happy (and she finally got her puppy).

Seeing the update for this in my inbox, I actually squeaked in excitement! I'm neck deep in final year assessments at the moment, but this was always one of my favourite A2A fics and so well worth an essay break to retread the whole thing from the start! Ouch! I cursed a little under my breath when I noticed this fanfiction had been left unfinished! It's really a pity - I've only just seen the finale last week, so I get that it would stop one from writing (especially because after the Big Revelation basically every fanfiction with a nice ending become AU. Sigh) but I was a bit bummed to see this had been left hanging. In any case, it was probably the best fanfiction I had found so far! It's original, and intriguing, and I love your take on characters. I was especially fond of the idea that Alex might find out that Lucy and herself have more in common than half genetic code. Even though it's not complete, I liked it very much!

Wow... I've just found this story and it is absolutely amazing. Possibly one of the most thought-provoking things I've ever read, and there were actually tears in my eyes a few chapters ago when Lucy found out Alex was pregnant when she and Gene got shot. Your writing is amazing, and the constant, ticking time bomb in the background, counting down to, what seems to be, the inevitable gives the story a whole other dimension. I really hope that just this once, that time can be rewritten! But either way, this story is sheer brilliance, and I can't wait for more!
