Oh god. This actually made me cry. And I don't mean teary eyed. I mean full on sobbing. But then again, the book thief always made me cry.
I loved their question after a redo. I loved the tenderness in all that and the good humour and the lightness and oh god I'm actually sobbing. I need a hug.

It's funny, being actually German, to read the German words and the lack of Üs.

I read this a while ago, I believe, but I just wanted to say how amazing this is because (a) even though I've read it multiple times it still makes me want to cry (b) I was literally googling the phrase "There's no chance for a do-over, is there?" recently because I thought it was canon and I wanted to see how it fit into the book, and I was confused when the only hit that came up was this series of drabbles and I was like "Oh, I guess it's not canon. These drabbles are just so amazing I think they're canon."

This is fantastic. I love it.
I must go and re read the book, because this has given me so many feels and just gah.

This was amazing. I loved the way you included the minor characters that are hardly recognised but no less important. And I loved that you included the main characters as well.
This piece was poignant and bittersweet and the ending just about killed me.

things i loved about this fic:

-the title, because that is my very favourite wilfred owen poem.

-'What he gets instead is rust and blood (and he can't even tell the two apart as he hangs there) on wire like thorns and the hand of Death against his scalp.'

-'not that it mattered much when the news finally wormed its way to what was left of Himmel Strausse. It was Alex Steiner and Liesel who set their jaws against the weight of it; them only.' -i hadn't realised that before, that the only people who were left to get the news weren't the ones who cared the most.

-'Death crouches in the cockpit and sighs.' and 'But Death has the face of a man and grabs his soul by the earlobe, and luck can't be stolen, either.' - those two lines sounded exactly like Death's narration in the story.

-'But Death never had much of a say in who he took, least of all a bomb-blasted teenager with a broken spine and torn aorta.' - yes, oh yes.

and Liesel's part. more like being dead on your feet. that just hurt.

This is beautifully written, the flow of it and the characterizations are wonderfully done. I like how rather than writing from just Death's perspective (as in the actual novel) you used him in it instead.

also, Dulce Et Decorum Est coincides very well with this so bravo for that.

I aspire to write like this.

Uh, I really don't know what to say about this except that it's brilliant and breathtaking and beautiful. And that still doesn't capture the absolute amazingness of this fic and the power and just...wow.

So sorry for such an inadequte review...but this has just stunned me into speechlessness and I'm not really forming coherent sentences at the moment. :P
