I love this story! I love the idea that Iruka was left behind by his sensei and learned about teaching from temporarily being with so many different teachers.
And young Kakashi/Iruka friendship is so 'aw'-inducing!

I like how you left little hints all around about how Iruka got to be a good teacher and a well-loved shinobi. The jump to the present was a little abrupt for me, mostly because I was so entranced by Iruka and his cute curiosity, but this was a really awesome read!
