I cry every time I read this story. I don’t know how you do it Dust. Your stories are some of the best on this site. Most have me launghing so hard, but this one touches me so much I cry. Lucas is a perfect OC and I have an attachment to him already through this story. Your masterful storytelling is engaging, amusing at times to offer relief from the tension and sadness, and so amazing. The service in the woods is so poignant. I love how you show everyone’s sorrow in ways each of them would express it. Thank you.

Chapters 1-4 It's a touching story that fuels the emotions while showing Hogan at his most human. On a personal note, it triggers memories of a different place and time. And of others, who as the title says, shall not grow old.

Good story. Thank you for introducing those of us from the U.S. to a holiday most of us have probably never heard of. I do have one question, though. What the heck is "two-up"? We've never heard of that, either!

Well as I am Australian, I have a pretty good idea of what ANZAC Day is about and I have to say that I thought this story was written beautifully. The ending didn't disappiont me at all which I always fear will happen when reading a story (the ending can make or break a story). It is funny to see some of the other readers lack of knowledge of the day (should read more) but then again I probably don't know anything about American traditions (I should read more). And I have to tell you that that the ceremony you've written was 100 times better than the one we had at school, really disappointed with that one :( Well as I'm getting off topic, a pleasure to read and I wish you the best with future works :)

Perfect ending to what has been a fascinating story. Being American, and knowing absolutely nothing about Anzac day, this story was an education for ceremony itself was very touching as was Hogan's speech. And for someone who hadn't prepared for it, I think he said it all. I especially liked the ending when Hogan invited Wentworth to the barracks to show them the game two-up. Great story.

interesting story. As an American, I've never heard of Anzac Day. It sounds similar to our Memorial Day, though.
