OMG! this is the most BEAUTIFUL and amazing description of Lights and Hopes struggle against Odin... and between their hearts. I just LOOVED IT! please do it again! write some more! please!

"It took a beating, but I should be able to salvage it..." Now, if I were in an English class, I could look for the secondary meaning: It could refer to Hope also (salvaging, repairing, making stronger, fixing), who after taking a beating has proven to Lightning that he can be "salvaged".

Your emphasis on Odin attacking Hope makes me think that you could be one of the (relatively few, In My Experience) people to notice that while everyone else's Eidolon went after the summoner, Light's went after Hope. Add in Fang's interpretation of the Eidolon summoning and things become much more interesting than just a very annoying and difficult boss battle.

According to Fang, Lightning is worried about protecting Hope. Not about her own survival, but about the survival of her companion... Most everyone else's Esper appeared cause they despaired about their own condition (Snow and Serah's crystalisation, Hope and his own perception of his weakness, Sazh and the realisation etc etc), but it seems Lightning genuinely is frightnened of what could happen to Hope if he keeps following her, so the Eidolon appears to remove Hope from holding Lightning back and flat-footed.

Thank god I'm not in an English class and I don't have to do any of this analysis. I can just say well done for writing such a brilliant story.

great reinterpretation! I loved that part of the game. Hope proved his resilience to Lightning like Lightning proved her worth to Odin.

This was one of my favorite scenes in the game, and you did a solid job of reinterpreting it (rather than just embellishing the existing dialogue, like many do). My favorite bit was the last paragraph. More? B-)

and How she could not truly abandon him and leave him to die.
