garden galaxy chapter 1 . 5/27
I'm glad sokka was reunited with Katara. This reminds me of Native americans being forced into schools to learn "proper" languages
purpleradiance chapter 1 . 5/22

poisonquiver chapter 1 . 3/25
May I continue this? I have an idea for it running through my head and no time like a quarantine to get those ideas out, huh? I really loved reading this and it's like my 50th reread and I can't. I love all your works.
Guest chapter 1 . 12/21/2019
This was really good and intriguing au idea. It's difficult to find fics that deal with the other non-fighting aspects of war and the fire nation colonies, thanks for writing!
dontgiveahoot chapter 1 . 9/18/2019
Man, this is amazing. The parallels between this Sokka defending Mai against Azula's firebending and canon-Sokka defending Katara against Aang's firebending are amazing, and the bit where Sokka realised he didn't remember how to spell his name in his own language anymore broke my heart.

I know you said that there were no plans to continue, but I can't help but wondering how things may have gone if it had continued. Katara and Mai, both considering themselves Sokka's sister and the other a competitor to take him from her. Sokka, considering both girls his sisters and finding this hard to articulate precisely because it's such a touchy subject.

Sokka finding himself in a similar position to Zuko's in Ba Sing Se, being pled with by his sister to 'come home' to the Fire Nation, all will be forgiven if he just comes home now. Sokka, who is the first to trust Zuko at the Western Air Temple because he *knows* Zuko is more than just 'the angry ponytail jerk who chased us all across the world' that Katara sees. A version of the Boiling Rock where Hakoda meets his son for the first time in ten years - and he looks like a Fire Nation prison guard. A version of the Boiling Rock where Mai saves not only 'the jerk who dumped me', but the brother who left her as well.

A post-War Sokka proving that it's possible to belong to two different Nations and speaking up for himself. A Sokka who can say "I have two very protective sisters who are very good at fighting. I also have two brothers-in-law who happen to be the Fire Lord and the Avatar. You gonna listen to what I have to say? Yeah. I thought so." A Sokka whose investment in Republic City and its existence as a place for multicultural families is particularly personal.

owowow emotions are messy
Dictator4Life chapter 1 . 3/30/2019
This is beautiful and disturbing and very, very sad. I love it.
Cryptographic DeLurk chapter 1 . 12/9/2018
This is such a miserable piece and I mean that in the best way. It was never overwrought or melodramatic, but also never pulled punches or tried to disguise the racism and what became the slow and painful death of Sokka's sense of self and identity. I think you opened it wonderfully and pointedly, with the classic wash-your-mouth-with-soap punishment with Mai's mom. And the sections with Piandao and Azula really stood out. And Mai. Poor Mai. Who can't possibly understand, but whose pain is no less real. Sorry if it was a drain to write, but it's much appreciated; thank you for doing so.
Noble-Husky chapter 1 . 10/24/2017
Damn.
Good fic.
cristina rosales chapter 1 . 9/26/2017
amazing, superb
axel100 chapter 1 . 4/18/2017
This was very heart felt and saddening for Mai. However it was a bit jarring that Sokka didn't suffer a greater punishment for actually punching Azula. And can really refuse a royal invitation?
maripaz6 chapter 1 . 1/22/2017
Interesting idea.
mary chapter 1 . 2/23/2016
Oh my gosh this is awesome! I always imagined it as katara getting kidnaped at age 6, then forming a sibling bond with Zuko, then her meeting up with sokka ay age 12 and remembering who she is and leaving to be with her real family. Zuko never knows what hapoened untill he sees her when she's 15 in her village when he's looking for Aang. He's got mixed emotions about seeing her, but the line was drawn when she tried to protect the avatar, making them oficial enemies! If you could wright that that would be awesome!
Amanthya chapter 1 . 10/10/2015
Oh, poor Mai. Sokka should've taken her with, since she seems to actually be attached to him and spirits know, her blood family sucks.
