Ambiguous Loon chapter 9 . 9/11/2011
After reading both My Soul to Give and My soul to Take, I think my head has died...

OK, so form what I've gathered:

A disease broke out, causing some sort of civil war. Somehow JD is leading a group against the government who may of started the disease. How there's the old and new(2016) JD's who have been switched, and will presumably be switched back with they...die? Oh god my head died again 0.0

First thing second though, I like this fic. In a strange, masochistic, what-the-hell kinda way. It's good, it's compelling, and it's different. I'm just not certain I really got as much exposition as I should of for a story this elaborate. Maybe I'm missing a prequel?

Either way, great job, looking forward to seeing how this ends.

Cheers!

Ok, so this is an amazing story and I was sad when I saw this was the last chapter and then I see that you were planning to update, a good few months ago. Is there an update coming or are you leaving the chapter as it is?

I'm a very shy reviewer, so even if I love the way you write and think this fic is awesome, I'm just going to joyblush then run away...

seilki chapter 8 . 10/10/2010
Aaargh, sorry this is such a late review. This was a seriously amazing chapter though. The smutty part was not only very well written, it was a really interesting look at the dynamic between John and Dr. Cox. And wow, they're a messed up couple. In the best way, of course. :D

And as for the part with JD... wowww. The cure doesn't work? Or the government is feeding lies to the people and saying they're from John Dorian? It would certaintly be a good way to turn people against the rebels. I'm not exactly sure what's going on, but I can't wait to find out. I love how optimistic JD is as well, and how that contrasts with the cynical, John. JD's thoughts about Dan were interesting too. It's an interesting idea, that in one reality people go down the path that's right for them, and in others the person they end up being is themself, as they truly are... okay, that doesn't make much sense. You put it much better in the story. XD

Anyway, this story just gets more and more fascinating as it goes on and I can't wait for the next chapter! :)

Bells of Tomorrow chapter 8 . 9/25/2010
The one bad thing about being so into a story where you find yourself writing novel-esque reviews is when you come across a chapter where you don't have much to say. This is, by NO means, because of your writing. The quality of this chapter was just as high as it's predecessors. But because I'm, well, me...I don't know what to say as far as the sex scene goes. Saying, "I liked it!" won't cover it enough, mainly in that it was *far* more than just your normal sex scene, but going into explicit detail as to why I liked it is just going to make me sound like a creeper. So instead, I'm going to concentrate on what made it more than just two hot guys going at it, sound good?

The first thing I have to mention is a comment I'm sure you know is coming: I liked the fact that John felt guilty the entire time. I think this line, throughout the entirety of the chapter, is what summed up his fear (and the affair as a whole) the most: "John disappeared. He left Perry alone with a country to fight against, and here he is fucking another man." It's good to read that he plans on telling Perry - *his* Perry - but it doesn't take away from the fact that he shouldn't have slept with him in the first place.

I also have to make note of the humor sprinkled throughout this chapter. I know you tend to do that fairly often anyway (yet another thing I love about this story) but I didn't expect to find that in this chapter, for one reason or another. So when I read lines like, "Strange how you don't think much about weight loss in the hands until another man's fingers are up your ass," and, "No offense, kid . . . but this part is seriously killing my sex drive," I got a good laugh. (Also, might I say that John referring to Dr. Cox as a "Newbie" like that was both funny and somewhat chilling; a very nice touch to the scene).

Speaking of chilling, I am not exaggerating at all when I say I got actual *shivers* at John's quiet thought here: "You aren't here to stop the war, are you? . . . You're here to start it." God, I hope that's not the case; that John really was just panicking. As angry as I was with him there, I definitely feel sympathy for him in terms of the war. Ironically enough, Russel, at least in my opinion, hit the nail right on the head when he said John never chose to be who he is; not really, anyway. He may have stepped up to the plate when he was needed, but I don't think there was ever a real, "I'm going to be a leader now; I'm going to be a war-hero," type of decision going on. He did what he had to do and ended *up* being the leader, but I don't think it's something he ever would have voluntarily signed up for. That being said, it must be such a frightening thought, even if it was strictly panic induced; the idea that he would cause the very same thing he'd been fighting against in his world; the very same thing he's been trying to prevent from happening in JD's world too.

Speaking of JD, I love how, even in his current condition (and environment) he was able to take some child-like pleasure at the stars above his head. The whole scene was very bittersweet, as was the mention of his porch from the actual show. The mere mention of it takes you back to a time in their world where all was right, so while it's a sweet reminder of the life that was, it's also quite sad for that very same reason.

I also can't help but wonder about the cure; how it's been internalizing the sickness instead of helping people get better. I must confess that I don't really believe Russel when he says it's John Dorian's fault. If John, as he said, was the one to acknowledge that the cure isn't working, then I doubt he knows and was just not doing anything about it. (I am, of course, speaking strictly from what little Russel opened up about. Going solely off of what we know so far in terms of John and his crew constantly fighting for the people, I think it's safe to say he would not be very pleased by that discovery).

Of course, I can't end this review without mentioning that last scene in the bathroom... As I said earlier, I'm glad John regrets his actions, but seriously...blaming Perry? It takes to tango, John... I must also confess to openly wincing at Dr. Cox's, "Because the enemy doesn't like faggots?" It was a low blow - one that's an obvious contradiction to the older man's actions only minutes before their shower - but while the comment made me cringe, I can't blame him entirely for saying what he said, since John had not only lied to him about the matter, but acted like it was his fault. I enjoyed his response to Perry's comment though, very much, actually, but him reinforcing yet again that the affair was all Dr. Cox's fault had me shaking my head. At least John acknowledged at the end, if only to himself, that he had seriously messed up.

Well, it seems I've officially run out of things to say. I thought this review would be lacking, to be honest, but once I started commenting, I just couldn't seem to stop. Anyway, fantastic update to a fantastic story. You never cease to amaze me, you really don't. :)

Until next time!
Bells of Tomorrow chapter 7 . 9/14/2010
FINALLY! Seriously, you have no idea how long I've been waiting to read this chapter. (Well, I guess you sort of do if you look at the date you posted then do the math. lol) But seriously, my week has been so loaded. I've been reading/responding to people during study breaks and the like, but not being able to have a moment that was long enough to both read and review this chapter has been KILLING me!

So anyway, yes...you can imagine how excited I was when I got off a bit early tonight from work, knowing I don't have much homework to do as well. IE, a night where I can finally sit down and read this little beauty. ;)

And of course, as always, you did not disappoint.

Okay, first thing I have to mention in this chapter: It was such a small, almost unnoticeable scene, but when it struck me the way it did, I knew I had to mention it here. When Sam and Jack came running towards Keith excitedly - "Keith! Come see what we made out of tongue depressors and Uncle Dan's old gum!" - it made me laugh...at first. It wasn't until after I was done smiling did I realize, "That's actually really sad..." It was cute, in a bittersweet way, but after the initial chuckle, you realize that these kids aren't playing with legos and Nintendo games like most, but are instead playing with tongue depressors and USED GUM. Why? Because it's the only thing they have. I'm not really sure if that bit was intentional or not, but either way, it really stood out to me.

Despite the beating that ensued (which, by the way, was definitely cringe worthy) I was glad to see that Russel survived; even happier to see that he is now on "Jimmy's" side, so to speak. It's a shame that he had to come to the conclusion that THEY killed those children rather than JD by repeatedly punching him, but as twisted as this may sound, I think it kind of helped JD, emotionally. Not so much physically, of course, since he got a concussion as a result (him repeating "I must have a concussion" was definitely eerie) but I think him being punished for those kids' deaths helped him cope a little, since it's clear he thought himself responsible from the previous chapter and by how he accepted Russel's throws in this one.

I know you said it wasn't intentional, but I REALLY loved how there was only a snippet of what was happening in 2009. Here you have this panicked chapter of, "Oh God, we have to get JD out of there," and between all of that tension, we get this little glance that is completely and utterly opposite of what is happening over in 2016. I don't know about you or any of your other readers, but even in that one little peek, I got a little angry with John. I get why he's acting on his desire; secretly wanting to be with *his* Perry, not being sure if he'll ever be able to again, etc. In that way, I'm sympathetic to him and just want to say, "This man has been through hell and back again; cut him some damn slack!" But at the same time, you see his real Perry back in 2016 trying to take care of his counterpart while undoubtedly worrying about where *his* John is, and it's just frustrating to see how it all unfolds.

You know...I was mad at Elliot in her flashback, what with her being jealous of John for "being able" to pass out after the horrible beatings he just went through. Now while I don't agree with her outlook in THAT situation (since that's pretty messed up; sorry, Elliot) that's sort of how I feel in THIS situation; how John is able to get away from it all by giving himself over to someone who really isn't his husband while the rest of them suffer through all of that pain. I hate to be angry at him after he's gone through so much - especially knowing that he still loves his Perry - but I still can't bring myself to applaud what it is that he's doing; not when his Perry is over there worrying about his safety and JD is stuck in a containment camp...

Anyway, once again, thank you for drawing me into your world and giving me yet another thing to have crazy-fangirl spasms over. (I'm exaggerating of course. Well, okay...maybe I'm only exaggerating a *little*...) Either way, this story - *your* story - has never ceased to blow my mind. That being said, I can't wait till the next chapter. :)

P.S. - Thank you so much for that shout out in your author's note. I feel a little awkward saying that, to be honest, since I never considered anything I've ever said to you in regards to your writing something that deserves thanks. I give you the feedback I do because I'm a huge fan of your work and think it is more than just a little deserving of praise, but if I go on anymore about that, I'm pretty sure my computer's going to blow up. ;)
