R.I.P for Kodan sled dog team, owner and specially his best friend Blizzard. Plus I think Kodan is probably gonna enter the same situation of being a outsiders, like Balto. I also enjoy the lighthearted moments between Kodan and Aniu. I guess they were trying keep their mind off, about death. Especially when it's love one's.

This is my favorite quote in chapter one. "family is about more than looking alike or sharing the same bloodlines. Family is about loving and caring for one another." Why I like this quote? Because it reminds me that. Through blood we may not be related but loyalty makes us family. I hope Anju will understand that as well, while she understands who she truly is. Because she is more than just a pretty face and some day she is gonna be legendary.

What happened to Hope? You never mentioned her?

Wow, it only took me a month and change to give you another review. Maybe I'll actually finish reviewing this before the Heat-Death of the Universe. :P

I'm gonna cover several chapters at once with this one.

It's not often you get the heroes of (something based on) a children's film out hunting and eating a prey animal, but that moose hunt was tense. More to the point, when Kodan saved Kava, I almost, ALMOST believed for five seconds that his belief that "destroying an enemy by making a friend" approach would work out in the long-term, especially knowing how dismissive Amarok's been of Kava and how Sequoia-impatient as he's been with him and even judging him appropriately-still treated him more fairly than the former ("He might have been yer father, boy, but he wasn't yer daddy!").

Kava's general sliminess and willingness to go along with The Plan anyway slapped some sense into me on the subject though.

Speaking of, when Aniu was playing along with Kava's courtship, I felt you missed an opportunity to show off some of his boasting and..."flirting" instead of telling us secondhand. It would have added more weight to Aniu's disgust with him. Ah well, between the latter half of this story and What's Love Anyway (which I should probably ALSO review some day), I can see you've had a lot of practice nailing "Show Don't Tell" since then.

That fight got ugly fast, but it was pretty nice of Sequoia to give everyone a chance to run (and that at third of the Black Claw knew when things were about to go belly up), and that fight on the ridge was similarly tense. Of course, considering what happens later, Kodan had the worst luck to not be in a (fanfic of a) Disney movie, or having Kava fall off a cliff might have actually killed him. Oh well, hindsight's 20/20.

That's all that's come to mind for now (I spaced this reading out over several days due to a bunch of other distractions, so I might have missed some details). Hopefully I'll have another review for you in the next three years. :P

Wow, I certainly took my time coming back to this story, didn't I? Sorry.

I had a soft spot for this chapter, since there's always something interesting about an outsider doing well at something nobody expects them to because of outside-the-box thinking (I take it you did your research on mushing for Kodan's approach to the race there). At least some of the wolves are willing to give him the time of day now, even if Kava is doubling down on his hatred of him.

I also have a soft spot for culture shock too, such as Aniu's reaction to Kodan wanting to bury his fellow sled dogs (and I assume musher too, but when all you have are paws you can only dig so deep).

And yikes, I already know from reading the rest of the story how nasty Kava is, but I think slime oozed from the edges of my monitor when rereading his scene at the end. Even Gaston didn't make my skin crawl like that (if only because he had actual charisma).

I actually read this story all the way through a few months ago, and after seeing the slim pickings here, I must admit it's probably the best story with the "How Balto's parents met" premise yet. As a result, I decided to come back periodically and review every few chapters.

Not much to say two chapters in, but for my two cents...

Making Aniu's origins fairly mysterious was a nice touch, as was Kodan's unfortunate near death experience. Glad to see he got off on the right paw with the rest of the pack, but it's a shame that his sled team and musher had to die for this to happen. I'll admit I thought he was a little too chill upon realizing his hosts were wolves, but he's a smart cookie considering he figured out on his own that they'd have killed him by now if they were really that dangerous (of course, I already know where things are going with Kava, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it...again).

And although it's a bit early to be saying this, I am looking forward to the sequel.

I always thought about if this was just a kid friendly game of throwns without dragons, but I've realized yeah I never seen Game of Throwns. Then I wondered what if... you crossovered Balto and Game of Throwns. So like the origin of Aniu's mother and father, and how she got left near the Eagle Point or which one was it, Eagle Point, Eagles Point, or Eagles Bluff? Did I just become a nerd for this? Just make a animated show of this, so we can have a quiz on and figure out which pack we'd be in, and then like, this story would get more popular. Not saying it's terrible, I love it, it's just, you know, Fanfiction. And it's for Balto. Like, I only considered the first Balto a classic because the sequels suck, the actor of Doc is dead (you know the old dog), Bob Hoskins (stops and thinks of the Super Mario Bros movie) ugh, never mind (I'd rather be watching Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat 2 (I don't remember the name), and that's saying a
lot.) Ok, Bob Hoskins' death. But you know good fanfic.

Well... once again you have left me not knowing how to feel at all and more emotional mixed up than when I started the chapter. I'm unsure whether to hate you or thank you... so I think for the good of everything I'll just say this is extremely well written and if you hadn't planned on doing a sequel I might have thrown something (or possibly someone) out a ten story window... You have left so many unanswered questions like what did actually happen to Aniu (I know you said you wanted the mystery preserved but you can't help but wonder...)? And does the title one survivor mean there is no hope of seeing Hope in the sequel? Like none...at all? That thought is crushingly depressing. I also noticed how you didn't mention her at all in the final not or anything so maybe you do plan to bring her back but don't want to announce it!? I just don't know! How can you do this to me?! AAAAHHHH!

Anyway... good story and I'm looking forward to that sequel so hurry up with this other story and the research and stuff so you can write it and I can read it!

Never the end. Oh wow... I absolutely love this story and will treasure it always. I thought in this last part I would learn something of the whereabouts of Kodan, but until that is known- I have now the conclusion of how Boris found Balto. (All though I'm dying inside having NO CLUE where EITHER of the parents ARE. I'm slowly... slowly... dying... like Balto. Hopefully you'll be everyone's Boris and within a sequel or a oneshot you give us this intel and save us from our deaths. Or... at least mine. But knowing you you'll make us hope he's alive or something and then smash our hopes to the Earth's core. So...) I love how you made this chapter. It was a great conclusion. Even though it leaves me wondering what happened to Hope. Hmm... I'm not going to think anything becuase you will do something entirely more awesome and again, raise hope then destroy. Well- until then, I loved this story, and I hope to see more of these characters and what you do with them.
