Reviews for Marooned
fire-lemur chapter 8 . 8/28/2019
Well, that certainly didn't work out too well for our heroes! The consequences of being too trusting without enough information. Here's hoping they can rally a good defense, but given how early in the story is I doubt it would last. I wonder what it is Rulo's forces actually want. Maybe they're just an assimilate, resistance is futile kind of people, or maybe they're driven by some form of desperation, like achieving their end goal would justify the means (at least in their minds). Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how this geopolitical strife unfolds.
fire-lemur chapter 3 . 8/22/2018
I'm digging the marooned angle and the fact that Jak has to contend with surviving alone. It seems doubtful to me that Daxter is actually dead so soon, so it'll be interesting to see how that unspools. Perhaps he'll be thriving with some local animal population on a different island, a la C-3PO and the Ewoks. I'm really looking forward to the inevitable J/K reunion and him finally telling her how he feels! :D
fire-lemur chapter 2 . 8/21/2018
Hm, it'll be interesting to see just how things go terribly wrong and set the stage for the events of chapter 1, which gave me some serious WWII vibes. Always nice to see Torn taking care of business like the no-nonsense charmer he is.
jwill21 chapter 25 . 6/21/2018
Awesome story. Read through the entire thing. I loved it! I hope you write a sequel!
Zarina3908 chapter 25 . 5/26/2018
My goodness, it feels like it has been forever. I was never more surprised or more glad to see a notification for something.

I saw you were writing a third installment and I am very excited for that as well. Thank you for finishing this, I know these things can occasionally be difficult to come back to after several years.
Ottsel Cath chapter 1 . 5/21/2018
Very well written! The descriptions are fantastic and I am very excited to see who those people are! I will definitely read more in the next couple of days and weeks. :)
Moon's Envoy chapter 2 . 6/4/2015
Did I mention I like your descriptions? I mean, I know I have, but I should say it where other people can see it as well. In your first chapter I just adore the spider bit, it's wonderful

That being said, this chapter is pretty intriguing as well Thank you for writing this!

And someday I'll be able to give useful reviews but until then you'll have to make do with this token of my appreciation
BlackKitt chapter 23 . 7/14/2013
Alas, my reading adventure had finally come to an end. I loved ready this story very much, and I'm surely going back to read it again sometime. But first, some more of my thoughts.

Regarding the final chapter: Oh. My God. My poor arachnophobic heart just stopped beating. I mean, I knew deep down that there had to be something wrong with that perfect, full-of-Precursor-items island, but a colony of monsterous spiders wasn't on my list. Thank goodness Jak, Ashelin and Torn got out of there alive.

But Olto didn't. Though I'm glad he died in his sleep and didn't have to witness that spider bury itself into his chest, I'm really sad to see him go. He was a very fun OC, and he will be dearly missed.

Nevertheless, I did love the idea of the Precursor Dome and the ancient Zoomers they found in there. I love that thing in the first Jak game (especially making the engine scream... Good times). And Jak and Ashelin's lucid dreaming was awesome! I think they must have a really good connection to pull something like that off, and I adore a solid friendship between those two. Because of the whole Jak/Keira and Jak/Ashelin shipping war, people tend to forgot how wonderful a good friendship can be.

What I loved a lot about the last chapters in Haven was Jak's little chat with some civilians. He's the city's hero, after all, so I like it when he reaches down to the common man. Nice little touch.

And wow, I was not expecting the Idandi to send a spy! Haha, when Jak mentioned the statue of Torn I figured I probably missed that somewhere in the earlier chapters, but it was a really good trick to expose the spy. It made me wonder if that unknown creature at the Drill Platform might have been spies too... I guess I'll have to wait until you write the sequel to find out.

Torn's speech was awesome, as were the fireworks! It's strange, though, seeing them so pumped up and excited when I already know they'll be shot down and most of them won't survive (especially Daxter and his 'Nah, it'll be a breeze!' Poor little guy...). I do hope his (and everyone's) sacrifice won't be in vain, and that the children of Mar can indeed be free again.

This story has been wonderful. I hope you will write a sequel in the future, as I still have many unanswered questions. For now, I still have its sister story to enjoy. Thank you for writing, and until next time!
BlackKitt chapter 16 . 7/11/2013
I thought the part about Ashelin telling Jak about Damas was very touching. I didn't really like Ashelin when I first encountered her in Jak II, but she has grown on me quite a lot. It can't have been easy for her being the Baron's daughter, torn between doing the right thing and sticking with her family. I think she handled it really well, and I like how you've described her relationship with Damas.

Yes, Jak managed to get a tracking device on one of their ships! Let's go, Freedom League!

Haha, I had a good laugh at Daxter bailing on Jak to get drunk. Poor Tess, having to put up with him drinking her beer! Good thing Jak was there to help her. Heroes truly never get a day off.

The discovery on the island was unexpected, but really cool. I hope the dome-like structure holds some sort of vehicle they can use to escape the island, or that the nearly-finished beacon will attract a rescue troop (sent by Keira, possibly?). I also like the connection Jak feels between the island and his old home. I always thought he would at least miss his old home a little bit, but not many authors seem to agree with me on that.

Also loved Olto's gleeful sliding down the dome, glad he's having fun despite not feeling very well. I do hope it's nothing serious, poor thing.

The creature at the Drill Platform seems ominous. I'm reminded of those annoying flying Metal Heads, I always hated them (though the flying Krimzon Guards were worse... shooting down the Eco Ships at the Drill Platform is the worst misson in all the Jak games). Let's hope it won't get in the way of their plans to build a base up there. It's good that they found the Idandi city though, I wonder how they'll go about attacking it.

Excellent story, I'll be back for more reading tomorrow!
BlackKitt chapter 13 . 7/11/2013
I think this is the best chapter of the story so far. I love how the four of them are starting to enjoy their time on the island, realising it holds the wonderful freedom they've never experienced in Haven before. Olto's shell creation was really clever, it should come in handy for them.

Jak had a lucid dream! Haha, I couldn't get the image of the plumber from Ratchet and Clank out of my head when the repairman showed up, but that's just me, I guess. Oh, and I loved Vin's cameo! Now I'm curious if he's gotten his message across to Keira, though I'm guessing that question won't be answered until I start reading 'Seperated'.

Ashelin's night swim felt very magical, and I'm glad it made her more determined to face the challenges ahead, though I did think she was a bit stupid for bringing dirt to a valuable supply of clean water. Still, if her nightly adventures and slide in the mud revealed something interesting, it might very well have been worth it.

Very curious what's underneath the mud now. I'll return to read after dinner!
BlackKitt chapter 12 . 4/5/2013
Olto finally found his shell! I hope they can put it to good use on the island, especially now that their beacon is destroyed. Good to see that Torn is still sane

Yey for Sig! He's my favorite character in all of Jak and Daxter, so I'm really happy he'll have a part in the story too! Typical Sig to decorate the throne room with Metal Head trophies, very nice touch. Also, I had a good laugh at Kleiver and Veger, with Veger being tied to Kleiver's shoulder. I hope they'll make another appearance too!

Until next time!
BlackKitt chapter 10 . 3/31/2013
Wow, you write action scenes really well! I was on the edge of my seat reading the battle between Haven and the Idandi. Really awesome!

I must say, even though I like Haven, I have to side with the Idandi when it comes to the war. I mean, it was kind of (well, totally) Haven's fault for shooting down the first aircrafts, so I get where the Idandi are coming from. I hope the people of Haven can eventually explain to the Idandi what happened, and I also hope for the Havenites that Losk is the forgiving type.

I'm really curious about what will happen next now that the war has really begun.

Until next time!
BlackKitt chapter 9 . 3/14/2013
I love the history of the Idandi you came up with. The cave they lived in reminds me of the Spider Caves from the first Jak game, with the crystals and all. Very clever people, those Idandi. I wonder what will happen now that Haven City kind of screwed them over (accidentally, but still).

Glad to see that Ashelin is still alive, though I do miss Daxter's big yap. Olto's a great OC too, really love his decorating work. Will those four ever find a way off the island?

Until next time!
BlackKitt chapter 6 . 3/2/2013
Alright, I've got to hand it to you, your story is amazing so far. I really love how you wrote two halves of one story at the same time, and I think it's amazing that reading chapters of the second half doesn't spoil anything from the first half. Props to you, my dear sir.

What I like best about your story is the humor you manage to incorporate in its very serious plotline. I had a good laugh at Jak walking in on Daxter and Tess back in chapter 4, and the jellyfish in this chapter made me snicker again. Your story captures the feel of Jak and Daxter very well, and I admire you for being able to do that.

And now, I'm going to read on. I'm curious what will make this new civilaisation declare war on Haven, and I also wonder who else survived the shooting. Since your profile says this story is not for Daxter lovers, I'm assuming he's gone, but I do hope Ashelin made it out.

Until next time!
FlygonNick chapter 7 . 7/25/2012
OK, sorry for the late reviewing. Pretty damn solid story so far. These survival stories all always interesting, though I'm hoping Daxter's alive because he and Sig were two of my favorite characters in the game. The joke with Ashelin was pretty funny, the kind of awesome humor you'd expect from Jak and Daxter. Looking forward to your new story.
