Reviews for Black Velvet
thesilentspy chapter 2 . 6/6/2012
Okay, keep in mind, I like weird pairings, and this is weird, even for me. Still, you made it work. You made their connection feel real and kept the relationship interesting even after they got together. Not a lot of romances can do that. Plus, you didn't have to resort to love triangles, and jealousy, etc. like a lot of other writers do. You presented problems that felt legitmate, were still interesting, and held true to the characters. Completely amazing, I can't say that I'm a Nessie/Marcus shipper now, but I am for this story. Just fantastic.

Love love love it. Of course. :)
Kyilliki chapter 2 . 6/10/2010
This is truly a fascinating take on Nessie. I've always thought that she would rebel in some way, and the picture you paint of her as both dark and surprisingly compassionate is very convincing. I quite like the pairing as well- it's sweet and odd and harsh in places.

Lovely work :)

Wonderful story. I love your version of nessie. I always pictured nessie going against the grain but I love that you bring her back.

Wow. When you first said Nessie/Marcus I was just like...what the? But this. This could so happen. The imprinting thing has always been troublesome for me, and you capture that suffocation so well. And Marcus. Unexpectedly intriguing and captivating. I really enjoyed this. Absolutely loved the last line**It is in that last glance that he sees the delicate threads between them solidify, and he knows he has won her, the ultimate prize.\**

Did I see on your chat status you are adding to this?

This is probably the oddest non-canon pairing I've read (especially because I can't get Christopher Heyerdahl's interpretation of Marcus out of my head) but it just works. I can totally understand how Jacob's imprinting could become suffocating after 300 years and how everyone in the Cullen family would feel total loyalty to Nessie (and, consequently, almost none to Jacob). I am also on board to this not-quite relationship they have. Out of all the 'good' vampires in the book (excluding Tanya), Nessie is probably the best fit for a no strings attached relationship with a member of the Volturi. Really awesome job. :)

I really, really suck at giving reviews, especially when I think something is truly brilliant and innovative and this good. I am amazed, first, that this isn't longer. You have told a whole story in so few words, where some people would take 100,0. Second, you have a wonderful way with words and I think you really captured the emotion of both Marcus and Nessie.

I don't know if I love or hate Nessie after reading this. You've made this so plausible a scenario for me that I'm not sure how I feel about her.

Very well done. :)
