I like your story, a lot. That said, the word gyps* is extremely racist. Frankly, it’s much like the N-word. Historically, it’s been used to oppress Romani people for centuries. Please, please, remove that word and the dehumanizing stereotypical description that goes along with it. Writing like that perpetuates a harmful system.

I kinda felt like the inclusion of Charlus and the whole "wrong BWL" thing just felt like an unnecessary and overused cliche. If you had to include Charlus, for God's sake, make him a regular kid who just so happened to be fortunate enough to live with his parents, while Harry didn't. You could've focused this story on James and Lily trying to desperately mend their relationship with Harry after abandoning him. You could've showed cracks begining to form in Harry's emotionless mask, as he felt anger at his parents, jealousy for Charlus, etc. I just felt like so much of what could have been done wasn't. Also, so much of the story just seems to pass Harry by because as he repeatedly says "he didn't care". Why even bother having these things happen if Harry isn't going to be an active member of the story? Just create some AU universe where you get to do your own thing.
