You've written how I would have pictured it.

You've made Esme real and with character, flaws and very human. This is an excellent story!

WOW... I know from the books/movie Edward talks about this time himself...but you've definitely captured the emotion behind it all for each of the characters.

You did excellent research for the background and it fit beautifully! It felt romantic and yet true to style of the times. My grandparents were married a little earlier that Carlisle and Esme. This would have been the centenia anniversary. (My Grandmother was a 1 room school house teacher in South Dakota.) So not too far off, though my Grandmother was fortunate enough to attend a "Normal" teaching college. She was the only one of her 7 sisters to attend college. Your research like I said is excellent and I know too when I'm writing it's the details that make up the story that makes it work!

I really like you broached the subject of their love lives together and a part from each other. That Esme's experience was at best abusive and not love. And Carlisle b/c he still holds true to his beliefs that he had been taught by his father. Excellent! In some respects not unlike Edward and Bella...

I like how Esme has proven to herself that she can do this: be a part of the human race. She had so much fun you could feel her bravado and enthusiasm for the adventure.

You've painted a very romantic picture of Carlisle which I think was perfect. I think that he was very much a product of his era and time spent w/the Volturi. Though their feeding choice were subject to debate, I think they also brought him to a plane of existence that he wouldn't have experienced otherwise. Being the son of an Anglican minister, limited his environment and experiences.

I like how you constructed the story around Esme's past. Also the reflection of Edward and Carlisle for Esme is another aspect that is interesting.

I like the extreme emotional aspect that you've drawn of Esme as a newborn vampire.

I am liking how you've created Esme's first days as a vampire. She's going thru a surreal experience whumor, curiosity, and almost reveling in her experiences. At least that's my perceptions thus far. Glad I found this!

Just letting you know that I really like this story and the Human Years. It's been a while since I've reread them both but I still think about them often. To me they're canon :)
