Layton does need to come to terms with Luke in a way though. In The Curious Village alone, he put Luke in too much danger. The ferris wheel (he shouldve split up, hes smart), the tower (at the end) and when they were hunting down the possible murderer. So killing Luke, if only to force Layton to confront the fact hes bad at parenting in a single fic, is good.

*mumbles* I dont know how he gets away with it, but Luke stays with the Professor, but not as adopted son... Luke has a father... Its explained in the 4th game *has not played*

It musta KILLED Layton to be told that by a dying Luke though XD So its not all bad *thumbs up*

Hmm. Definitely tragic, definitely heartbreaking, but... it doesn't go anywhere. If you're going to kill Luke (which as a rule I rarely recommend), you need to finish what you started. What changes because of Luke's death? How does the emotional toll affect Layton's ability to solve puzzles, and ultimately to find the Golden Apple? Obviously you don't have to rewrite the entire series, but what's the point of writing something this tragic without making something of it?
