I love how platonic their relationship seems on the surface, but it still hints of something more. They progress slowly.

I also love how it is about more than just their friendship. It seems like it is also about the hardships of changing and growing up.

"Are you happy?"

"Sure." But her eyes tell the truth.

"Me too." And his lips lie.

Suddenly her fingers are wrapped around his and they're walking along the sidewalks.

"Not always." Her ears are red and her nose has turned brighter.

In truth I think the bits like these kept it realistic and set it apart from many other stories.

wow. all i can say is wow. i totally love the older perspective of this pairing. the theme was a little dark but i appreciated it .. like it's possible something like this could happen to them and change them. i dont know if you were ever planning to making a sequel or continuing it but if you did .. i totally would follow it.

This was actually very lovely. It has this quiet beauty to it and at times, your writing rises beyond the ordinary and morphs into something complex and heart wrenching. The third part did jar a bit with the flow of the writing but I suppose that is to be expected. Nick and Macy are a different sort and the flow of conversation and emotions between them differs. Anyhow, great job and please do write more. :)
