This is the third time I have read this fic and for the third time, it had reduced me to an emotional, sobbing wreck.

I don't think I have cried so much at a piece of fiction since Sirius Black died in Harry Potter (and I cried A LOT then!).

This was a really emotional story, with a powerful message behind it. However, you gave it a wonderful ending which gave all the characters, especially Gene and Alex. Glad they'll finally be together.

Gorgeous ending :)

I made the bad mistake of reading this first at work, and I was crying on and off all afternoon. Now I'm reading it at home, and I'm crying all over again! This is a perfect, agonisingly sad ending. Gene's final farewell to Alex in Luigi's cracked me up, and the thought of him living on alone for another 46 years, making weekly pilgrimages to her grave, is utterly heartbreaking. So is the thought of Molly, blaming herself for her mother's death, waiting for death herself at the age of 33. But once again Alex's ghost brings comfort, and I love the idea of Gene and Molly meeting, comparing notes, and entertaining the idea that their two Alexes could have been one and the same. And the ending, with a promise of Gene's imminent death and reunion with Alex, made me cry all over again. Beautiful and so, so sad.

You really caught me out there, I was convinced that Gene had been shot at the end of the last chapter. This is tremendously strong and dark writing, the account of Alex's death is deeply upsetting but necessary, and the scene in which Rodolpho is haunted by the ghosts of Alex and his other victims, and then by his Alessandra, is a brilliant inspiration. Above all Gene's rage and grief are perfectly captured by his reduction of Rodolpho to "it" and "the thing".

That was lovely. Poor Alex. Poor Gene. God, I'm still crying! But at least they finally get to be together, even if it is in death. At least they realise they love each other.

Oh my goodness, I'm actually sobbing at the moment, I completely broke down during the final chapter. This was one of the most heart breaking, yet beautiful fics I've ever read. The narrative of the women about to get murdered juxtaposed next to CID trying to uncover the investigation was so effective, and the scene where Gene's letting Alex just set the water works off completely! The last section in the final chapter was just perfect- sad, yet the hope of being with Gene for eternity.

(And just so you know, I'm still crying!)
