I've read the manga often enough to subconsciously associate the gemstones to the characters for the sake of their names only, so the gender thing's stopped being a issue for me. It was a new arc and from 3rdgen on the protagonists always have to be a guy and a girl and having the names the other way around would be even more joke material, imo.
