I'm not against some totally fun and out of normal Harry fanfics, but this is supposed to be 1996 or so right?
The Internet wasn't that widely spread yet, it just gained popularity and accessibility with really poor modem connections. My family couldn't afford to waste money on a computer at that time, the internet was a luxury. Internet, which breaks when anybody calls on your home phone for some next years. There was hardly much to find there, it was sparse and not that well indexed.
DVD was rare and newly introduced in the market, people mostly had only CDs and Netflix didn't exist yet for many years.
BTW I didn't know anything about Doctor Who till they restarted it about 2005, but I'm not British.
I think that many of these references are out of place here.
