Reviews for A Matter of Conscience
SarahKnight chapter 9 . 4/9
Brilliant story. Action packed and I enjoyed the friendship stuff, too. Holmes being injured added to the emotional impact and made the investigation and fights even more tense.
Random Ruth chapter 9 . 6/20/2018
Oh my gosh this is just brilliant! Beautifully written! I loved it! :)
tripleransom chapter 9 . 4/24/2015
A lovely casefic! The mystery holds up and the affection between the two of the, is completely believable. It reads more like ACD canon than movie-verse to me, but that is by no means a criticism.
Glorymourn chapter 9 . 7/5/2014

l'Amie de l'abaisse chapter 9 . 7/13/2013
Love, love, love it! But, in the last chapter, how could he be playing the violin, of he was still wearing the sling?
Aeryn Lavanthia chapter 9 . 10/9/2012
Loved this story! Sherlock Holmes has got to be the most difficult character in history to write dialogue for but you do it very well indeed :)

I just sat and read this whole thing through in one sitting. This is the best Sherlock Holmes story I have ever read, and I mean that sincerely! It was simply stunning.

You never faltered in style or characterization. A lot of people seem to fall into the trap of making Holmes overly sentimental, but you kept all of the wonderful "bromance," as I would call it, to really reasonable limits. While we see Watson's concern and deep affection for Holmes quite clearly, Holmes' reciprocal feelings are more veiled, but still clearly present.

I particularly enjoyed the way that you worked in Mary and Lestrade as important but minor characters - they were noticeable and interesting when present, but did not detract from the reason we all read these stories, which is of course to see Watson and Holmes on their wonderful adventures together.

My favorite moments include Watson finding Holmes in the alley at the end, there - his protectiveness of Holmes was really well portrayed. I also liked the little bit about Holmes falling asleep on Watson's shoulder in the cab - this could have come across as too sentimental and cheesy, but it didn't at all.

Your grammar and spelling were also virtually without error, which is of course extremely rare on this site, so thank you for that as well.

In all, I hope you don't mind my long review, and I thank you for giving me a thoroughly enjoyable reading experience! You are a fantastic writer.

Nostalgic Beauty chapter 9 . 5/7/2012
I greatly enjoyed this. Very few can pull off the sort of proper writing that was employed in the days of the original Sherlock Holmes. I think you pulled it off splendidly. Thank you very much!
kittytrypsin chapter 9 . 2/2/2012
I have to commend this story and your wonderful command of Victorian English to the highest possible level. It was a thoroughly enjoyable romp from start to finish and most gratifying (to a Brit) that you avoided the pitfalls of Americanisms such as "should of" or "gotten" when writing the spoken words of an Englishman.

I haven't yet read your first piece as I tend to avoid anything that suggests slash between these characters, preferring to think of them as they are portrayed in both the movies and the recent BBC series (Robert and Jude definitely having the edge) but must strongly encourage you to continue writing for this genre as you definitely have captured them to perfection. I'm putting you on my author alert. Bravo!
