This is a great addition to the one scene we deserved to see but never really had a chance, but it's good for writers and their stories.
I love that you explored how confusing he is to her. She is sometimes so oblivious to everything that is heart matter, I suspect because she just feels too much, (hance her stay at The Place). I hope you could write more of them. Thank you for this

Love this story. You wrote them so well. Great job! The dummy twins is one of my favorite episodes. They should have given us more scenes.

Ok I get Niles’ explanation though like he knows CC and he knows she can get scared so ok I forgive him.

AND THEN THE WHOLE “CALL ME CC” THING WAS SO HOT AND NILES SAYING “I LOVE YOU, CC” JUST SET ME ON FIRE WHY DIDN’T WE GET AN “I LOVE YOU, CC” ON THE SHOW WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE “OH MISS BABCOCK, I LOVE YOU” LIKE WHY IS HE STILL CALLING HER MISS BABCOCK WHY GOD WHy

"I believe I have an all-night promise to keep," Niles told her, slowly, torturously unbuttoning her pants.
"As long as it's longer than that," CC replied meaningfully

CC ALWAYS SAYS THE NICE THINGS REMEMBER WHEN WE REALIZED THIS WHEN TALKING ABOUT SEASON 6? AND LOOK AT HER HERE.

“And within a matter of moments, both discovered the spark that had been so glaringly absent from their lives.” Ive dissolved into a puddle of tears. Use them to water a nice flower that’ll blossom and be magical and make everyone appreciate this couple the way they deserve to be appreciated.

Hey! For once I’m caught up on your current fics that I can go back and review all the old ones! HOLLA. This has 18 reviews. Where is this fandom? Why hast thou forsaken me?

“She wasn't 29; gone were the days when she could feasibly begin a new "adventure" as far as her career was concerned. But she wasn't 50, as Niles liked to hint. Far from it, actually. She wondered if anyone even knew her age.” CC YOU CAN DO WHATEVER YOU WANT YOU FLAWLESS GRACEFUL SWAN PRINCESS! Also my heart broke at “She wondered if anyone even knew her age” WHY IS SHE SO MISTREATED BY EVERYONE? You’d think everyone would be like “wow look at this beautiful blonde heiress who is funny and successful on her own I should befriend her!” Just furthers our theory that there was toxic mold in the Sheffield mansion and CC was the only person immune to it. And Niles sometimes.

“Niles looked out the window from his room.” Of course he did. Drama queen.

“And he'd done some stupid things in his life.” Musical montage of all of Niles’ past lovers plays in the background

“Perhaps he'd proposed to Babcock in a desperate attempt to change his life. Whatever the answer would have been—and being honest with himself, Niles knew she was going to say no—it would have changed his life.” This is totally plausible. Now, I know Niles appears to be a complete idiot in season 6, but I’m pretty sure he wasn’t like “Hey I love this woman lemme ask her to marry me” because I think he’s smarter than that. I think it was something more, like, as you said, he needed to change his life.

“If Niles were really moving back to England, she was never going to get the last word. And damnit, she was not going to let him win this.” That’s my girl!

“It was silent inside, which probably meant that Niles was sitting on the edge of the bed, pouting.” Even before we knew each other we knew we hated Niles’ pouting. Bless.

“She may not understand his actions of late, but CC knew her Butler Boy” her Butler Boy DON’T TOUCH ME.

She shut the door sharply behind her and crossed her arms over her chest. Niles looked up at her; if he was surprised that she was suddenly standing in his room after rejecting him both privately and publicly, he showed no signs of it. She returned his stare before the silence overwhelmed her.
"What?" she demanded.
Niles simply stared at her. "You walked in my room, Babcock."

Okay I love the whole setup of this. Niles is so beaten down he can’t even act surprised that she’s there. He doesn’t even say anything. And her just slamming into the room and staring at him being like “What?” IDK I love it.

“She wanted to strangle him. There he was, being so flippant, and he was the one who'd upended the precarious relationship it had taken so long to form. This wasn't how things went between them, and yet Niles completely disregarded the rules.” THIS. THIS SO MUCH. I swear I didn’t mean to borrow any of this for Dummy Date but like this is Niles. Changing everything and not even doing anything about it and acting like the victim an why is he so stupid sometimes? I wanna take his face in my hands and tell him he’s stupid. Like Jack does to Rose when she gets off the lifeboat in Titanic.

“However much he'd known she was going to say no, he'd desperately wanted her to say yes. Their back-and-forth dance wasn't as fulfilling as it should have been and somewhere deep down, Niles was hoping they could bypass another few years of hands brushing against each other in favor of something infinitely more rewarding.” Okay well I get where Niles is coming from here. There were only so many more little moments I could have taken before I quit the show. And he had 15-20 years of it.

"Newsflash: you don't propose to someone because you're bored with your life," CC replied waspishly.

I wish I could reply to people waspishly. I’m gonna work on that. And I love her response. Insert obligatory comment about how I want CC Babcock, a fictional character, to adopt me.

“She silently applauded herself for using the insult she'd come up with just a few minutes ago.” I’m glad this is here. I always wonder if they silently applauded themselves for the insults they came up with. I silently applaud myself all the time when I come up with insults for them, so. I feel this.

"Oh, wake up, Babcock," Niles said, standing up and looking her in the eye. "I've spent more time around someone I claimed to hate in the last 5 years than I have with my own family."
"Your family is an ocean away," CC responded.
"Shut it, CaCa, you know what I'm saying."

KISS ME GOODBYE I’M DEFYING GRAVITY! He’s spent more time around someone he claimed to hate than he has his own family! I wish this had been pointed out on the show. He follows her around the way Chester follows Fran around and everyone just ignores it.

"Oh, yes, Niles. This isn't surprising at all. I knew how you felt. You smiled at me five months ago—was I to take that as a hint that you want me to mother your children?" STANDS UP AND SLOW CLAPS FOR CC.

"If you could manage to eke anything out of those dried-up eggs, I'd be shocked."
CC glared at him with such intensity that for a split second, Niles actually felt intimidated. Now he understood how the choreographers felt.

LMAO NILES. I’m silently applauding that insult. And CC glaring at him so intensely he understands how the choreographers felt … god bless us all.

"Vying to win the Tony Award, Drama Queen? I'm sure you'll move on," CC snapped.

IDK if I’ve ever told you this but this is one of my favorite lines ever.

Okay and then Niles being like “15 years where I couldn’t move on because I was waiting for you to laugh at my zingers” (such a drama queen) and CC being like “yeah exactly! 15 years where you basically tried to ruin my life” SO. DEAD. ON. I’m glad she doesn’t back down at his pathetic attempt to be like “woah is me I’ve loved you for 15 years and you never noticed” and she just throws it back in his face with a “15 years” of her own. If that makes sense. I didn’t sleep great last night.

"Oh, Miss Minnelli, I could never even try to take the Tony away from you," Niles retorted

Again, I just really loved this exchange. I’m so jealous of your talent.

“Were CC less emotional herself, she might have noticed their ever-present pattern: you make me feel something, I get mad at you.” YEP THERE THEY ARE THAT’S THEM. Do you try to sum up their relationship in one sentence for every fic you write? Just wondering. Because you do and you’re good at it. I hate you.

"No, you don't get to do this. I've played the Bitch of Broadway next to your Bashful Butler routine for the past 6 years and I'm sick of it. I may not be innocent, Niles, but I didn't always deserve your onslaught. And despite everything, history will remember this as icy CC, rejecting poor Niles." CC IS THE FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE OF MY HEART AND SOUL!

"Oh, Babcock, I'm going to pick on you forever and then propose out of the blue. What do you say, pip pip?"
Niles looked up at her. "First of all, I have never said pip pip. And second of all, Miss Babcock, I believe I relinquished all opportunities for an easy life the day I fell in love with you."

SO IF YOU CARE TO FIND ME LOOK TO THE WESTERN SKYYYYYY!
First of all, I laughed at CC’s impression of Niles and Niles being like “I have never said pip pip” and second of all, Niles surprising CC with confessing his love is always one of my favorite parts of Dummy Twins missing scene fics. I get chills every time. Well, when it’s well done, which this is.

“Of the things that had floored her the last few days, that really did it. Had he been looking at her at that precise moment, he would have noticed the way her face faltered and how her eyes widened almost imperceptibly. Her mouth opened slightly and she stepped closer to him.” Another thing I love in fics is CC’s reaction when Niles tells her he loves her. SHE STEPPED CLOSER TO HIM.

"I should have known that the blue-blooded princess couldn't imagine anything in life being easy," Niles muttered.
CC took a step back.
AND THEN NILES GOES AND OPENS HIS BIG FAT STUPID TRAP AND SHE TAKES A STEP BACK. NILES DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING EVER AT ALL ABOUT ANYTHING?

Alright but then I got less mad at Niles when he was like “I know a thing or two about you” and CC can’t help herself and asks “Like what?”

AND THEN HIS WHOLE SPEECH ABOUT WHAT HE KNOWS ABOUT HER OH MY GOD WELL. JUST KILL ME DEAD WHY DON’T YOU. SO GOOD. SO GOD DAMN GOOD.

Oh god and it hurt when she says his name and reaches out to touch him but he leaves because he still thinks she’s gonna leave him.

BUT THEN SHE GOES AFTER HIM!

"You took your shoes off."
"I didn't want you to hear me following you."
"I would have anyhow, with those big hooves slapping the floor."
AMAZING. I can just hear how he says this, too. And CC ignoring it and saying something meaningful is one of my fav things too. Like go ahead Niles and throw your little temper tantrum you big baby, I’m gonna be patient and rational and you’re gonna fall even more in love with me.

AND THEN QUEEN CC, RULER OF THE UNIVERSE, KNOCKS US ALL OUT WITH HER “I NOTICED YOU TOO” SPEECH HAAHAHAHHAHA I’M DEAD INSIDE I LOVE THEM SO MUCH.

“He unballed his fists and she untwined her arms, and they did so in perfect unison. As their lips finally met, their arms crashed around each other with such intensity that they both stumbled and Niles pushed her against the counter behind her to balance both of them. Once balanced, he shifted his weight and felt her melt against him.” This is so beautiful can someone kiss me like this? Hell, can someone bump me up against a counter? I’ll take anything.

"I'm fully prepared to do whatever it is you want to do tonight, and I'll leave tomorrow morning expecting nothing else from you. We can have tonight." NVM what I said earlier about Niles sometimes being immune to the toxic mold because clearly it ate away at his brain. Clearly.

You make me feel something, I get mad at you. How very true.

“And you hate washing windows, but you’ve spent more time washing the office windows than any others in this house.” Truer words have never been spoken.

CC didn’t know how long they stood in the kitchen staring at each other, but she recalled with perfect clarity that they’d simultaneously leaned toward each other. YES!

“I’m fully prepared to do whatever it is you want to do tonight, and I’ll leave tomorrow morning expecting nothing else from you.” NO! I get where Niles is coming from here, but I, much like C.C., really just feel like taking two full steps back. That made my heart sink a little bit. Plus, I think that he’d definitely not be prepared to leave it at that. To quote HIMYM Season 1, Episode 2, Ted/Robin: “There is no off-switch.”

The characters are very well portrayed, the writing is great, the story is amazing... It's probably the best "Dummy Twins" continuation. Definitely going to my favorites.

Wow! That was wonderful! Probably the most in-character continuation that I've ever read. You've captured C.C. and Niles in a way that I actually wouldn't have thought of, yet really is very accurate. :) This was a very well-written and beautiful story, and has definitely earned my favorite.
