Reviews for Revenge of the Nerds
ZileRacer chapter 7 . 6/12
Urgh, please don't let this lead to a romantic relationship! I can't really imagine the two together
ZileRacer chapter 3 . 6/12
Eh, I can't really see Crane and Ivy as anything more than friends at best.
ZileRacer chapter 2 . 6/12
I like your explanations at the end. Very nifty
ZileRacer chapter 1 . 6/12
Seems like a fun story. I'll definitely check out the rest

Oh, wow. I am absolutely stunned by this series, seemingly sprung from a simple idea: Scarecrow's rather nerdy compared to the other Batman rogues. I mean, I kinda was aware that Scarecrow's characterization was different than others in Batman canon, but you took it and RAN with it. They way you looked at all the characters and placed magnifying glasses on their personalities behind the supervillain-ness while managing to keep it all sensibly coherent is outstanding. Arguably, your Joker is an exception to that, but his character is designed like that anyway. It works quite well for his role as the central antagonist driving the plot, as in him attempting to drive everyone in his sights up the wall and/or possibly six feet under.
I also really enjoyed your Poison Ivy characterization and her link to Harley and the newly developing one with Crane. Isley is often rendered as a joke or fully stereotyped, but yours manages to keep true to the background, make her a serious power, and still invite the reader to chuckle at her as with all the characters. I do wish you had a few more scenes showing Crane and Isley talking - that link of scientific intelligence (and particularly how both are biochemical fighters) that you mentioned in the last chapter of the first story and the first chapter of this story. As well as perhaps give us a mention of her own youth (whether it contrasts with Crane's or something else). Just a little more meat to their rather quickly formed bond.
Your wry narration style along with your focus on deeper character motivations are the pillars of this story, and they make this shine. If you can see a future for this series, then please share it with us!

Wow. Please let me know how you have time to know this many pop culture references and write amazing, well-written, complex plot lines and characters, plus time for sleeping and eating! This story is one of my favorite stories out of all that I've read. I love the tongue and cheek narration style, and I absolutely adore how you wrote Poison Ivy. One of the things I've always admired about her is that she's one of the only women in Batman's Rogues and she proves time and time how deserving she is of her place there. Your fics don't seem to have a single OOC moment and that's really impressive. Keep up the good work!

Just wanna say...that this has been the greatest Scarecrow fanfic I've ever read. Crane is my second favorite villain to Joker in the DC universe, and someone actually writing stories like you for his character, is just...words have not been invented yet. Thank you for such a wonderful story, and thanks for the pairing, because now I ship Scarecrow and Poison Ivy. I also loved how you developed their story, and kept them in character. And Nigma has certainly been entertaining, I just love when he takes sarcasm too literally. Just...well done good sir and or madam, well done. I just have two questions. 1: Which version of the characters did you use? The Arkham version, the cartoony animated series, or just the comics? 2: Assuming Scarecrow is your favorite villain for DC or the Batman series, what made you think up such amazing scenarios for him and the others in this story?

So this is it on my end. Again love the story, love you for making it, and just...I don't know...god bless that brilliant mind of yours.

I want you to know I read The Yellow Wallpaper precisely because this story mentioned it, a long time ago, and it helped me score brownie points in college lol. See, your writing impacts others in ways I bet you never thought about! Haha.

That, and aberrant psych is my thing. I just shelled out way too much for new hardcovers of the DSM-V and one of the previous editions (because the APA is just... No. At least at the time of my writing this, I feel that. Who knows what I'll think tomorrow.) since everyone has been going on about the removal of the axis system, and the debate on if the format change is too far or not far enough, etc. I'm not even a professional, just an interested volunteer and researcher, occasionally. I have no more room in my home library but I will never stop buying books.

I get the less evil aspects of Crane way too well lol.
Katherine chapter 9 . 10/29/2015
I love your literary, film, historical, tv, and especially Whovian references, oh great author among my favorites on this site. I like most of the references, even if I have to scroll down. I want to believe both Pam and Jonathan grew up watching The Doctor lol.

Obviously, Jonathan didn't, because in Podunk Nowhere, Georgia in the 1930s (Crane is introduced in canon as a villain originally in the 1940s, I think, so the 1930s would have been his impressionable younger years, not that it matters at all with all the reboots, but either way, his granny would not likely have a TV. Because of all the crazy; I like to think he grew up in a way that would do her proud, in the deepest recesses of her dark little heart - he learned about control with fear from *her* long before the bullies got their claws in him, and I think religion was her reason to torture the way science is his.)

But, well, he is a nerd. He could have gotten the dvds in college. It would explain all the British slang he uses in this two part series... Though I doubt the Doctor slipped 'bugger!' past the censors much... It could have been a nerdy British hobby that began his intro to the culture. Then there may have been Star Trek (he'd have liked Spock). Fancy literature is lovely, but so is scifi/fantasy, and if he's got the LotR DVDs, anything is possible. I know LotR is rough reading for a kid, I read all of them in 4th grade and actually corrected the librarian who set up this system of points for quizzes based on books. (She said wolves instead if wulves/wargs for an answer, or some equally stupid thing to argue about, I don't remember precisely. An 8 year old NERD is not having that, especially decades before the movies existed lol). I know he didn't pick that stuff up from Tetch lmao. He'd have liked a really clever eccentric piece of nonsense at that age, because full throttle genius 24/7 must just be exhausting.

'One of us! One of us!'

eeepppppppppiiiiccc! sorry, anyway please make a third story you could call it Return of the Nerds or something like that.

dylanbiancamano chapter 46 . 7/14/2015
I dug it, I liked how you wrote every character, and I especially like how you captured the Joker perfectly. Honestly my favorite part was everyone becoming increasingly fed up with him and Joker just not giving a shit.
Also I like how you made Scarecrow an action hero but pointed out that he is still a huge dork.
I actually really like the Scarecrow/Poison Ivy thing we ha going on here. I'm in to it. I'd personally like to see more of it. I don't know, I just think they're cute.
So when's the sequel to this one coming out?
Katherine chapter 32 . 6/30/2015
I never really thought about how much Warren owes Humphries. I wonder if Jonathan ever learned what really happened and why he had those months in solitary lol. He wouldn't need to say things like, 'I wish there were a God so I could ask him to damn you!' If he did, I guess.
Katherine chapter 19 . 6/30/2015
I don't remember who it was, but I read someone calculated that with all his armor, weapons, belt, fireproof cape that can turn into a glider sometimes, etc., Batman's outfit would be over 100lbs. Added to one version (of likely dozens) of canon's estimate to his weight of 280lbs of basically muscle (sounds more like Bane, but you'd have to be very strong to be Batman any way you look at it, so shrug) he and Croc might weigh nearly the same, but I guess Batman is more compact and thus would cause more focused force when causing immense property damage. I do like that the Riddler thinks about that kind of consequence. I doubt most insurance companies cover monster vs. vigilante street fights, though.
Katherine chapter 17 . 6/30/2015
So classic Night Monkey style Riddler. Oh, Jonny, if Ed had seen a bug he would have squealed, not daintily skipped over it. He never does anything for no reason. Economy of motion and showmanship unless necessary, and all that. I guess Jon's just lucky he got the electrocution trap compared to what I bet Edward has rigged further down the hall lmao.

Yes, I'm rereading this. Again. There's a severe dearth of genius comedic Scarecrow et al. authors these days when it comes to the Arkham crowd.

Come back? Maybe? Just a one shot? I have bleached hair and blue eyes but I can't do the puppy dog face like Harley over the Internet. Just imagine she's doing it. Instead of crying, 'Babies!' at Ivy (which I get, because I once stayed on the 17th floor of an apartment building during a fire scare, because my cat heard the siren and commotion and hid somewhere I could not find her at all. It's almost impossible to save a cat from a fire, they don't leave even a one story house, they hide; happened to two cats at a bookstore I used to work in when it caught fire one night. We didn't know where the fire was supposed to be, and there was a good chance it was definitely below the 17th floor, but my husband and I love our animals and we were NOT leaving without our cat haha. My grandmother called me insane later, and I agreed, but said it's not a bad kind of insane. I took in an animal that could not survive on its own. That means I am responsible for every aspect of that animal's survival and happiness that it cannot perform for itself. If I cannot perform this responsibility, I deserve what I get), it's more like, 'Stories!' Haha.
