Reviews for Lilac Fantasies
Inureader2 chapter 38 . 8/22/2019
I have added this story to my favorite story/author, not in hopes that others to find your story... Nope, did it in hopes that someday soon, I would receive a notification from a new writing. I am being straight up selfish right now. Got all the references, thoroughly enjoyed all your characters, ocs included. You did a FANTASTIC job! sucked us right in. Loved Sarah, Toby and Jareth. Certainly didn't want it to end. did share it with my two, labyrinth loving, daughters. Both, artist with a fantasy mind frame, who own non typical furbabies. this story made me smile a lot in a very relate-able way. this has to be my Favorite follow up for after the move. Be inspired even if its 2 years later :)

Thank you so much. Your story had everything. As someone who works to protect victims of domestic violence, I appreciate that you did not fantasize the danger. A lot of Labyrinth fanfics do. I see the reality of it daily. No one in the cycle ever finds it to be a fantasy, but a real life nightmare. So thank you for not saying that love is ever the reason for abuse or stalking. Control and contempt are.
You’ve touched on a lot of other good themes here and your writing style is very good. And your explanations for the how’s and why’s of the Underground are clever and unique. I’ve stayed up far too late reading it all in one go. But I have no regrets. I hope you keep writing.

Rereading this terrific story. But I thought she didn’t like black olives?
Ducky Mouse chapter 38 . 2/10/2019
Hello, I just wanted to say how utterly wonderful your writing is - it has inspired me to try writing again after so long.
I thought your characters were so well thought out. Toby was my favourite, but mostly because the relationships and interactions between him and the other characters were so realistic I felt like you were describing someone I know. Your explanation of the Underground slowly developing through the chapters had me hanging on everything and I couldn't wait to read the next bit to find out more.
I thought the way you tackled Pete's character and the reactions of characters to the way Sharon dealt with him fascinating. Thank you for writing a story where it is explained why it is not Sharon's fault for being mentally manipulated.
I also loved your wee jabs at fanfiction writers trying to publish fanfictions as books through Amanda's character (was Twilight really a Harry Potter fanfiction?! Why does it exist?!)

This has been to most imaginative story I have read in such a long time. I cannot thank you enough for posting it so anyone can read it and I would love to know if you have any published works.

It's impressive that you came back to finish this after so many years away and I'm glad you did. You've definitely given me the resolve to keep working on mine. It was a great story, a delight to read.

A lot of fanfiction is very ephemeal- there was an initial scene or feeling to start the work but not enough to sustain it. Your story is different. It's very self contained. Very sure of itself. You had a story (a real story- not a feeling or an insight or a ship) to tell and you told it in a very calm, very serene manner.

There were parts that didn't work for me- the Sharon and Toby arc was a little trite and predictable. The best friend was a little too fitting in that role. A few too many nods to popular culture. Maybe not quite enough darkness by the end.

But your craft was fantastic throughout! You wove the two story arcs beautifully and wrapped them up nicely at the end. There weren't any extraneous parts or plot holes or random indulgant scenes.

It was a good story. Very solid. Very nice!

I really like how you are weaving all the different plot lines into thr story. It's very natural.
Guest chapter 17 . 6/26/2017
Ah. More explanation of the realm. What happens if Sarah dies though? And why is Jarath enjoing this realm so much? Are there millions of different realms for each imagination or wish? Or is Sarah special? If she is special, why?

So many questions!
Guest chapter 12 . 6/26/2017
Oh. I feel like this isn't the full explanation as it doesnt account for what the goblins are actually. But it's a start and an interesting one. I can't help but wonder if we aren't getting a mirroring of the conclusion of the first adventure- where it is time to put away childish things (sort of). Is it worth keeping a childhood fantasy alive? What if it doesn't fulfill you? You're doing a great job exploring that in Sarah's frustration with the dream sequence. Once solved they should lose their power.

This story is bringing up so many thoughts.
Guest chapter 10 . 6/26/2017
So pish and tosh aren't part if the goblin realm? Im very curious as to where this will go. Just because Sarah is more comfortable with her sexuality doesnt mean there arent other weaknesses to exploit
Guest chapter 5 . 6/26/2017
Liking this story so far. It's relaxing and the gentle tone works really well. Love the underlying thread of tension as we find out what goblins are.
Kai chapter 38 . 6/2/2017
I enjoyed the buildup and the main gist of the Sarah-Jareth dynamic (using her dreams as a battery ala the Matrix to power the fantasy Labyrinth world) but I disliked most of the characters - including Sarah. Every time Sarah alluded to any pop culture reference, it felt less like character building and more like hearing the author's personal opinions. Doesn't like Twilight (not an unpopular opinion just an over-expressed one), doesn't like black mini black dresses, hates cheerfully drawn fantasy fairies, obsessed with coffee, obsessed with ferrets, and so on. All of the references make it feel dated and it's not even that long ago that this tale was started.

I also did not like or care for Sharon. So much of the story revolved around her inability to stand up for herself. When she finally makes a breakthrough (shouting for Peter's removal), the ending hints that she will eventually forget that moment of strength and lose out on any life lesson or empowerment that could be gained from it. The only slight positive that remains is that Toby and his family are now looking after her well-being (in an ironically domineering way).

The ending is also a bit vague. Will Sarah will continue to power the Underground until it drains her? The lethargy after each visit seems less like jet lag and more like Jareth is sucking out her life force a little bit each time. He's a fairy-goblin vampire. And a glittery one at that. The horror.
RavenishDove chapter 38 . 5/24/2017
I wasn't part of the fandom back in '08 but I'm very glad you revived this fic. Toby and Sharon were sweet and Sarah and Jareth's romance was satisfying. Bikkit was also quite adorable. Thanks for writing! Hope to see another fic from you someday.
Barranca chapter 37 . 5/24/2017
Thank you for giving us closure and bringing this story to an end! It was funny that Pete should remain as a goblin, I guess it symbolises Sharon moving on very well.
dannisez chapter 38 . 5/23/2017
Thanks for the amazing story. I've enjoyed looking forward to your updates and glad you made it through to the end. This was a sweet story highlighting the characters in their mature state, friendships blossoming and how true friends support one another. I don't want to sound mushy but just wanted to say thanks for the journey.
