I think Alanna's a bit too verbose in this chapter, but I love the idea of her son looking up his namesake.

I think this interpretation of Faithful sacrifices something of his character. He sounds as if he's forgotten himself, when he turns back to a constellation. I take your point about always leaving, but he *was* faithful, to both Alanna and Beka, and that isn't acknowledged in this fic. He seems totally unaware of most of his adventures, like a newborn kitten instead of an intelligent, sentient, even godlike cat.

I do like the "fire [and] vibrant hope" that you say drew him to both girls.

I loved the second half, particularly the names engraved on the door. I thought Daine came across as too cringing and scared in the first half; I have a feeling she'd be more direct with Numair, and certainly not as afraid. However, the point about being in a war is one she would bring up, so well done on that.

Interesting, to think how many playmates Daine might've lost because of her name. It probably drove her closer to the animals, too.
