I loved it up until the end, and even then I held out hope until the -very- end. But as you pointed out, thus it is with both sources of material. D's patrons often end up dead and the Watchmen didn't exactly have a bright and cheerful ending. So, I loved ninety-nine percent of it and honor the writer's intentions at the end. Of the three, this is my favorite.
