It's...so...perfect. You even used the words 'horribly' and 'good' right next to each other. :D Six-year-old Billy is impeccably in character. "Coal? No! That was unnacceptable!" It brought a smile to my face to read that; I could see Billy's determined eye-twitch as he thought it. And the ending...oh, I could see it coming and it still broke my heart a little bit. *favoriting!*

I was always like that. When I was in elementary I seriously only ever asked for books for Christmas, and for some fucked up reason I always got dolls. I also asked for a filing cabinet once, and my parents were apparently embarrassed while at the store (all the other parents were looking at them like they were terrible people for buying a child a filing cabinet). Eventually they started buying the books.

Also, what Bico said. Were they her "special friends"?

Oh, no. I can't say I didn't see this coming. :-/ This is absolutely heartbreaking. Poor Billy. :'-( But well written, and it makes sense given what we know about Billy.

Also not sure I like the mom or not. She's seems somewhat sympathetic but then is kind of not.. And I mean that in a good way, as in her character is pretty realistic but it's easy to slip into Billy's POV.

So... Billy's mom has "guests"? Like... what kind of "guests"? My mind automatically concludes she's a prostitute or something and they're her johns. Whatever they are, the quotation marks certainly give a sinister implication.
