A sad story...But with a great heartwarming ending.

I really did not expect the story to develop like this! But what a wonderful idea, that Gene, Sam and Alex are all reunited in an afterlife, and that Alex should have avoided Operation Rose because it was the infection which killed her. At last Gene understands everything. Very moving.

I made the bad mistake of reading this first at work (where I can't leave reviews), during a lunch break. Then I had to go into a meeting and try to explain why there were tears running down my face. Curses! The epitaphs had me howling even before I got to Alex's tapes and her letter. You write Gene's grief and remorse so movingly. I don't know how you are going to make this a cheery Christmas fic, but I look forward to seeing how you do it. Christmas 2008, maybe?

Oh my god, that was so sad, but so beautiful. You really captured all the emotions really well, the way you integrated Alex's tapes and her letter to Gene into the story. And the fact that he dies in exactly the same way as she did. Is this just a one-off, or will there be more chapters? I'd love to see if and how Gene is reunited with Alex :)
