Teobi chapter 1 . 2/27/2012 Wow. Someone recommended this to me today. It's just... ...I'm just... ...wow. Speechless. Your quiet, understated descriptions help me see everything so clearly. The abandoned buildings being reclaimed by the island. TB1, her grey sides streaked with rust. No doubt the swimming pool, dry and empty above her, filled with leaves and puddles with tadpoles in. And TB3, powering up for one last flight, Alan's hands mottles with age and his arthritic knees. I was completely spellbound from the first word to the last. That hasn't happened to me for a while, that a single Thunderbirds one-shot has affected me so deeply. Again, I say...wow. |
Little Miss Bump chapter 1 . 12/12/2009 This was just brilliant in every way. The description was beautifully visual, creating such a clear and detailed image in my mind that I found myself sucked right into the heart of the story. And your ability to keep me glued to the page the whole way through with very little dialogue? Well, that's some talent you've got there. I loved how you allowed us to learn more about the narrator very gradually, that's what seized my attention from start to finish. Until he stepped into Thunderbird 3's hanger, I wasn't sure who it was. That was very well done. Although I always do respond to any deep emotions in a novel/poem/film/TV show, this piece had me crying in earnest towards the end. It all seems so fitting; for the last Tracy son to end his life protecting the Thunderbirds machines and his deceased family's greatest secret...well, I'm crying again. A fantastic piece, a true pleasure to read. Thanks for sharing! xox |
tiylaya chapter 1 . 12/5/2009 I very much liked this story. The picture you painted of the decaying island, and the long-gone memories was very moving. I actually liked how you left what had happened ambiguous - whether the abandonment had been a sudden event or a mutual decision after years of toil and loss. Thinking about this one is going to give me nightmares tonight, I'm sure, but even so I'm glad to have read it. There are so many ways that International Rescue and all that goes with it could end, and this seems a more peaceful end than many, with a fitting funeral pyre. I can picture the furore that would follow these events, and the world coming to a realisation about what had happened - the heroes of International Rescue finally revealed and celebrated when the last of the generation was past questioning or capturing. Who knows, the fly-past and explosion might even inspire a visionary for a new generation to think that if it had been done once, by a single family, it could be done again. Admittedly, I'm a little concerned for the crew of the boat out there in the bay, given the force of the imminent explosion, but I guess that the last IR hero would have ensured they're far enough out to be safe. Thanks for posting a fascinating and thoughtful insight into one possible future. |
Elsa Jay chapter 1 . 12/5/2009 Sounds like a major catastrophe happened to the Traceys, all dead except one, so sad. You kept us guessing the identity till near the end, while giving little hints as to who it's not. Wonderful story telling. Any chance of a prequal? |
Red Hardy chapter 1 . 12/5/2009 Wow! That was a beautiful tribute. I was almost in tears by the end. And it wasn't until the very end when I realized who it was. I'm curious though as to why it seems Tracy Island and International Rescue were simply abandoned. It sounds as if they all just walked away one day, and never looked back. Might we be finding the answer to that in a future story? If IR isn't passed down to the next generation of Tracys, I think this was an eloquent and fitting end. Beautifully written. It was sad, almost achingly so, but at the same time it seemed 'right'. Thanks for sharing. :-) |
MichaelDavid1983 chapter 1 . 12/5/2009 Beautiful. As soon as it said what ship it was. I realized who. Wonderfully well-written. Please keep up the amazing work. I only wish that I could paint a picture like you. |
Tikatu chapter 1 . 12/5/2009 Very sad, and interesting the way you wound the clues into the narrative. It wasn't until the end that I knew who it was, and even then I wasn't quite sure as this sounds more movie-verse than TV-verse. It also sounded very much like some catastrophe had happened earlier, which is why the place was abandoned. Might be a plot bunny to pursue. Very well done. |
