You had me frightened for a bit. I could see those yellow bangs above the tiny bullet hole. Then it got worse, Illya and Napoleon facing that own fate; one that could not be avoided, one that can be ignored.

A fate the medical examiner knows to well.

Very powerful stuff, and kind of a subtle connection to Ducky on NCIS, at least for me.

Wow, where to start? This was a very moving story. Excellent, as always. You have a real talent for putting so much story into so few words. Of course, you had us thinking it was Illya and Napoleon, you sneak. But the names don't really matter that much - I expect the feelings are repeated to some extent in all close partnerships.

The dead speak to me - how many time have we heard Ducky say that? And Dr. Mackay - somehow that sounds wrong with any first name but Rodney... hehehe

The only teeny, tiny quibble I would have is that I think Napoloen & Illya will be remembering both their fallen colleagues, not just the one.

I could hear the doctor speaking with a Scots accent-seen too many eps of 'NCIS' for it to be otherwise, I suppose-but it was comforting, too.

With this story, I almost expected Illya to want to stay with his friend in autopsy. Perhaps, realize an interest and find excuses for future visits with some questions. Love foreshadowing :) Afterall, Illya has to start somewhere on his career change to an ME.

Either way, I don't comment often, but have been enjoying this whole series.
