A word on names:

My understanding is that Taro literally means "eldest son" in Japanese. And how it's "read" depends on the kanji used to write it. The example you gave is kinda wrong because you don't read the character separately, but together, so if you wrote it as 太郎 (hope that kanji came through there) then it would be read as "strong, masculine" and not "thick, son" (fatty? lol)

Anyway, you're mostly right because the most common spelling of Kentaro (健太郎) can be read as "healthy, strong, masculine" eldest son. This is why Japanese often ask how a name is written, because the meaning can change slightly based on not the phonetics, but the kanji spelling. There are like a half dozen or more different ways to spell this name, each with it's own reading, so it's kinda one of the more interesting things about Japanese names in general. If you've ever read anything by Rumiko Takahishi (Ranma 1/2, Lum, Inuyasha, etc), most of her Japanese names are puns in kanji because of this.

So... bad japanese lesson out of the way and moving right along to the actual story...

The first section of the story was fabulous. I really loved the frank discussion about the relationship including the insecurities about wondering "what if?" and all that. It was really warm to read.

Another thing that really came across was the clear yearning for home. It feels very real compared to how this story could have been portrayed (more of an adventure). I like it. It keeps everything very human and easy to relate to.

The only thing I think I have to offer constructive criticism on is that for a science fiction story, the science fiction part of it seems very perfunctory at this point. Maybe it's because the "human elements" of the story are making it take a back-seat. I don't know, but it felt a little thin to me. It would be cool to "explore" this world a little more by adding additional flavor/world building. At this point, I have very little understanding of the Yulvians and I can barely conceptualize them and that means by extension I'm having a hard time conceptualizing the setting fully.

All in all I am really enjoying this story. There are plenty of funny and warm moments in it and I'm still curious to know a lot of things about what the future holds and how Kei and Motoko are going to get home and now what's going to happen when they finally arrive (will that be the end or will it go further?)

I'm hooked, so good job!

Hmm, wow I forgot that you wrote this story as well. I really like it, even if I do think the dialogue in some places is a little bit too corny ;)

No seriously, it's a VERY interesting premise and setting. I hope that you have some idea of where you're taking it, but don't hold off too long before Keitaro and Motoko meet up with their fellow Hinata residents. Part of the fun is seeing how everyone will react to the new "mind meld" Kei/Mot couple.

Interesting concept. Liking it so far.
