I'm not sure how to review this. To say I loved it makes it seem as if the entire point of it, because it's definitely not a happy drabble, but it's beautifully written. You got that feeling of hopelessness across greatly, and I found myself agreeing with every point about how the characters failed in their purpose. I find it interesting how 2 says nothing about his own purpose, possibly not because he think he lived up to it, but because his was so small in comparison to the others.

This is a fanfic that, in spite of its small word count, I've read a few times over, because it gives an impression of being more layered and complicated than first glance.

I take it that 2 is the teller here? Or is it that you feel 2 is the only successful one of the 9?

Though I do agree- most of them didn't exactly succeed in their purpose. Especially 9- he tried to save one person and ended up killing five. That's kind of sad.

Well, I agree with your point of the story, but I feel that 2 is a little OOC. He strikes me as the fatherly type, who accepts that people make mistakes and forgives easily. This story felt a little bitter/despairing, and I'm just not sure it makes sense.

I believe that the story also would have been better if you had 2 criticise himself. If you WERE going for the cynical view, his obvious compassion for everyone would mean that he would never think himself better than the others - and thus he would criticise himself if he were to critique the others.

But I'm not too upset about it. Really, I completely understand where you're coming from (especially with 9). And, after all, I fell into the same trap you did; my own fanfiction portays 5 as far too bitter . . . XD
