Reviews for The Third Son
Kanarah J chapter 1 . 2/11/2012
Such a deep and thoughtful tale. It was full of so many brilliant parallels and connections that my mind is spinning. You've truly done a wonderful job weaving this together, and I'm very pleased that I decided to sift through the FFXII section tonight. You've don excellent work with this story!
BansheePsyche chapter 1 . 6/23/2011
This is undoubtedly the best father-son piece about Dr. Cid and Balthier I've ever read! Thank you for writing it, because it was an absolute joy to read.
The Giant Daifuku chapter 1 . 11/7/2010
Wow... this was really, really, good. Are you like a psychologist or something? That was a really interesting view on the relationship between Cid and Ffamran.
Mirage88 chapter 1 . 2/18/2010
This deserves more reviews. The relationship between Balthier and his dad was to me one of the most interesting plots in FFIX pity it wasn't explained in more detail in the game, but I guess that gives fan-fic writers a chance to come up with their own storys.
Temple of Thought chapter 1 . 12/2/2009
Very impressive story, this one became one of my favourites stories, though i never liked Cid (but always loved Balthier), from now on, i'll see him with a different view.

On the beginning of the story, when i saw Cid's father's name i kinda thought that was odd, but now i don't care that much to his second name. Although i saw a little error on the story: I saw an artwork that Cid is with Balthier when he was a baby, and Cid was very happy.

But it's a great story, well-writen, inside the character and very well-described.

an excellent story, I loved it.

Wow...what else can I say. It was a beautiful piece of writing.

I've always seen Cid as the main protagonis of FFXII, yes I know it was Vayne but there was something about Cid that made him that little bit more evil in my eyes.

As with other characters before you have shined new light onto this character. I found myself feeling sorry for Cid, looking back at th life you have written for him makes me feel for the guy.

He started out ignored and unloved but made a life for himself. He found a wife, had a child he never saw but still felt for, then two sons who died early only to make him cold and heartless towards the one who lived, but even then he began to love his son.

You wrote he never cared about what others felt but that is not true...well maybe it was true in his eyes but he cared about what Ffamran thought of him and always sought after his approval.

It is sad that even with his many successes he always failed in what mattered. It is sad and I felt for the poor guy.

Great piece of writing. I noticed that you hadn't marked it as complete so I do not know if you are writing more, personally I thought it made a perfect oneshot.

fluidstatic chapter 1 . 9/21/2009
I don't know what to say. I really don't. Each sentence carried so much weight I feel like I'm going to be chewing on this one for days. You fill plot holes with more grace, wit and talent than I could ever hope to display in my nattering little fics.

You have a way with emotional impact. Just when I thought I was about to cry, you'd toss in a clever, completely in-character little half-joke that would make me laugh out loud. ("Kupo," huh? *grin*)

*shivers* all in all an unbelievable reading experience. My new favorite of your stories.
Bullet in the Brainpan- Squish chapter 1 . 9/19/2009
-blinks- Holy crap, SPike, that was amazing. I love any story with Balthier and Cid, but nearly all the stories you write are perfectly in Character and just perfect to read.

I love your history on Cid. It's nice to know that he was psychotic to begin with. Just an amazing story.

Now where is my Landis Pheonix chapter? -raises eyebrow-
Zaz9-zaa0 chapter 1 . 9/19/2009
Three cheers for the entire, long-awaited backstory to Cid (the excellent name for his father -though Tidus might not agree), his initial motives and the decay of an aspiring young man's mind and family.

(It's quite alarming how well you capture Vayne's corruptive presence, and keeping in realistic tune to poor Zecht's, and that of the army's, response.)
terracannon876 chapter 1 . 9/19/2009
That ... was a doozy. This is actually both like and unlike several fanfics I've read over the times in dabbling in the fandom of FF12. Like, because it is about Ffamran and Cid. Unlike, because it is from Cid's POV, and the premise is that Cid's mind works much different than from everyone else's around him, and that Balthier wasn't quite as adoring of his father as some other fics make him out to be later on.

I really like the way you wrote Cid. It's a completely different frame of mind, and you can tell that there are just some thing he doesn't comprehend. The theme of the "Third Son" was interesting, especially considering that Cid himself was one as well.

Thanks lots for the story!
