I think you story is well

Short and powerful. You do a lot with a few words.

This is lovely, and I think it works well because it's so gloriously restrained. I especially like "sitting here puts something to the test" - because there always *is* that element of Vetinari and Vimes, isn't there? They're always pulling in opposite directions, but somehow on the same side. And the last line packs a perfect, pulled punch.
