Reviews for Facts Concerning the Strange Case of Wonderland
2isted Chocol8 chapter 48 . 8/21/2017
Okay, this has been quite a ride.

First, I want to congratulate you. This story has been an amazing experience to read. I usually don't enjoy stories with more than one narrator, or even three, but i've love this one. The narration was beautiful and very enjoyable. The way you've written it, the details, and how everything was part of different diaries- brilliant.

Secondly, the characters. Most of them were OC's, but I've love all of them. Nurse Mary, the detective Edison and Aaron were amazingly written, as well as Miss (I did not expect she being who se was) Charles Dodgson and others. Even Alice and the Hatter were surprisingly canon (at least, from my perspective). I usually always have some character that I dont enjoy or that I feel that the author hasn't given enough personality, but that has not been the case.

Finally, the story itself. I was so in need to know how would each chapter continue that I've find myself reading until 5:00am. I must admit, English is not my first language and sometimes I have trouble understanding, but I couldn't bring myself to a stop.

I think the parts I've most enjoyed have been the followings (spoilers for anyone that has not finished the story):

-The part were Edison first "dream walks" to the chess castle. The idea of a town habitated only by chess pieces, and how he narrated everything amazed me.

-The second time Edison went to Wonderland, and talked with the chesire cat. I dont know why, but that part stuck with me. Again, congratulations for the very fluid language.

-The dialogue of the Hatter. Everything of it. But mostly the part where he's talking with Alice. I could feel the nonsense of their speak and still find a very subtle logic that hold importance. Just perfect.

-The tea time with Alice and Edison. The nonsense of having a polite conversation, then start fighting each other while singing to then just finish everything as politely as it began. So ilogical. So mad. So great.

-And how couldn't I include here the part where Alice stabbed the Hatter. That fight had me holding my breath. And the madness of it, i swear I could sense it on the writting. The tension, and the experience of Alice with blades, everything told from a stranger's perspective. I just enjoyed it so much.

Again, i dont think I could bring myself to tell how much I've enjoyed this story. I wish I could find more gems as this one. I'm glad that you could bring yourself to finish this fic, as I myself know that sometimes is hard. But I assure you, the result has been totally worth it.

Sorry for any typos in this comment, as I've said I'm not an English speaker and I'm still learning. And once again, thank you for having written such an amazing story.

Have a nice day!

These last three chapters are supposed to be written by different people, yet they all have the same wordy, highly descriptive style. They all look like they were written by the same person. Of course they all were written by the same author, but the style needs to show at least some variance. I, myself, would never attempt a story with multiple points of view. Too hard to keep track of everything.

Holy crab monsters, Batman! This thing is marked as complete!

Thought for sure this was abandoned. Don't have time to read it right now. Will read later when daylight comes.
Also was wondering if fanfiction dot net was blocked in the author's home country - a highly repressive place with an autocratic president. Hmmm... Come to think of it, that description could apply to the United States right now.

this is very interesting

A mix of "Mirror Image," "Mystifying Madness," and "Crazed Clockwork." The atmosphere is chilling. The scene in Hatter's Lab was probably the high point of the game and might possibly be the high point in this story as well. I noticed the hint that Wonderland might now be Theophilus Carter's dream. Or maybe it always was, and Dodgson was wrong that it was Alice's dream? If you find a way to make the "shared hallucination" plot work, you're a genius.

Been a long time since an update. A very long time. Be aware that the AMA fandom now is about as lively as a mausoleum. And it's mostly Madness Returns fanfiction.

Best to delete this comment before it gets published. This chapter does not work. In Lani Lenore's "Behind Sanity," Wonderland was the Red Queen's dream. The Red Queen was a child with the supernatural ability to create a mass hallucination into which others could be drawn. The "Nightmare on Elm Street" plot. This story has never mentioned any supernatural abilities in Alice until this chapter. Lani made it to about the half-way point before the preposterous shared hallucination plot began to creak and reveal future plot holes. The plot of the original "Behind Sanity" fell completely apart in the last five chapters because the creatures of Wonderland had to be able to recognize each other in the real world. Except for Cheshire, because of his distinctive tattoos, this was not possible. The White Rabbit did give the hint of constantly playing with his pocket watch, but I'm sure this was a common trait among affluent men. The Red Queen had no known distinctive real world characteristics at all. In short, you've written yourself into a corner with this chapter. I've always thought that the "shared hallucination" plot was impossible to carry off successfully. My advice: post one more chapter that is a self-critique and admit that you can't figure out how to make the plot work. Or you could just delete everything. Don't mention Lani. She came closer than anyone in making the "shared hallucination" plot work, and her rewrite may actually accomplish the impossible. You have to go to wattpad to find it. I've never read Lani's rewrite because I find wattpad impossible to read. A pity you can't make this work. You do atmosphere better than anyone - even Lani. You burned your bridges when you introduced the idea of dreamwalking. This ruled out the possibility of making Wonderland a real place: a giant underground cave lit by phosphorescent plants on the roof of the cave.

A strange attempt to make your story work might be to make Wonderland a sort of spirit realm: a Limbo for the flawed. Not Hell, and definitely not Heaven. You could present Alice as having found a way to travel there while alive in her mind. Wonderland would be a real, fixed placed with fixed characteristics for everyone. You could also present Wonderland as one of the circles of Christian Purgatory (a Catholic concept - not sure if it exists in other forms of Christianity).

Good luck.

A fascinating chapter based on my favorite level in the first game. For those who care to look, that level was rife with all sorts of subtle, political symbolisms. In this chapter, the author's penchant for an extremely high level of description serves him and the reader well.

I still believe that there was supposed to be a second red chess level. The tea party scene with Alice on a giant table with four teacups where she has to sink the sugar cubes was, I think, the only remnant of that missing level that made it to the game. The purpose of that missing level was to have the new White Queen lead Alice to a piece of the Eyestaff.

I'm hoping that the author may write a few Wonderland chapters that represent levels that never occurred in the first game.

So Dodgson finally shows up in the story. It's been so long that I don't remember if he has appeared before in the story.

The plot finally moves forward an inch, but the big question of what is Wonderland remains unanswered.

A little too much description in this chapter. I think some paring is definitely in order.

Contraband in a loony bin. Who would think it?
nikkilittle chapter 30 . 7/25/2014
Another highly atmospheric and interesting chapter which, unfortunately, fails to advance the plot in any way that I can see.

These last few entries were interesting, I liked Hartland's the best.

Best chapter in the story. The two Caterpillar's Plot levels were my favorites in the first game. This chapter appears to go from the beginning of "Burning Curiosity" to the beginning of "Icy Reception." The dreamwalking chapters are the ones I find most interesting. The attack by fire imps was a section so vividly written that I saw it as a movie awash in visual distortion from the heat.
nikkilittle chapter 27 . 12/28/2013
"What, then, is keeping her from doing this herself?" I think the answer is obvious: she needs Harland's dreamwalking skills. Happy to see Dodgson again in the story. I can sense that in the future the character list for this story may explode. Wondering if I need to start making a list of the characters in the story. I also think that this author has definitely read "Alice I Have Been" by Melanie Benjamin. If the author finishes this, it will likely be the second best AMA fanfiction ever written. It would be fitting to have this as the last AMA fanfiction. Everything nowadays is "Madness Returns" fanfiction.

Yoo hoo! Hey! (Poke!) Remember me? You gonna wimp out on me at the half-way point again? I want another chapter by Christmas (December 25th). Poke! Poke! Poke!
