I really loved this story. It's too bad this was never filmed as an episode on the show. Very touching and beautifully written. I'm glad Sam got a chance to both say goodbye to his father (and with his father being able to see him not the leapee), and that he got to see his family again (even if they didn't know it was him) and help them cope and say goodbye, too. I especially liked the little touches like Al standing at attention before John Beckett, Al saluting him, and the entire scene with Mrs. Lawrence and the reference to Al the Bartender.

Great job.

This was very well done. Very touching! Glad I found it!
Aurora Nova chapter 1 . 12/9/2010
Very nice. I had a tightness in my own throat while I read this. I've often felt that the Almighty (or Whomever) should have given Sam a chance to say his goodbyes.

I only had one little quibble: if it's July, there wouldn't be any "icy coldness" as you mention at the end. Even early morning in July can be very warm. Especially in the Midwest.

Other than that, it was a good read. Nicely done.

This is a really very good story. I think KL Cole would be proud to see it. I like how you have mixed religion and fate and free will int his. I love the character of Mrs Lawrence and that Sam gets the chance to say goodbye to his dad. I lost both myu parents and neither time did I get to tell them goodbye. I think one needs that. Anyways, I really enjoyed this story. Thank you.

WEll, this story gave me a good long cry.

I'm so happy that Sam was there to say good bye (and that he could be seen for who he was). And so very glad that Al was there to comfort his best friend.

Loved the part when Al gave him a salute. Al is one hell of a guy, isn't he?

I'm still a bit teary over here, so I'm not giving one of my best reviews, so I hope you'll forgive me. Just know that I enjoyed it a lot and will be saving this to my favorites!

That was such a wonderful story. I'm still crying. I was able to picture the whole thing in my mind. Thank you. I hope you write more Quantum Leap fanfiction.

Thank you AJ and KL as well. I almost didn't read this story. It isn't my usual fandom but anything AJ writes is usually worth looking over so i brought it up and began to read.

AJ is always a superb writer. Occasionally he has strokes of shear genius. This story is one of those moment imho. To be able to say goodbye is a gift of mercy and grace. It allows us the time to set things straight in our account books with God (or whatever Deity you follow) and each other. It gives you access to heaven in a strange and beautiful way. AJ has caught these moments in all their grief, passion, love and grace.

While not telling his sibling and his mother who he is is probably very canon I can't help but think that Sam has left one thing undone here and that is making things right with his brother. Sometimes you have to choose between what is right and what is easy. On the face of it not telling is hard and the right thing to do but is it? The Rules are already laid out so Sam simply says I can't tell them and he doesn't. It is hard on his heart but he thinks it is right because it follows the rules.

On the other hand sometimes what is right is different to the head and the heart. When that happens almost always the rights and/or needs of the individual must come first. Would telling his family have hurt the project or them? No. Would it have helped the project or them? It would help them and help Sam thus helping the project. Win/win.

Still that is my opinion. Anyway you look at it AJ always writes a story worth reading. This one proves why he is on my Favorite Authors list. I am adding the story to the keeper list as well. If this is your first taste of life in the Squaredaway style don't let it be your last and include his other fandoms. You, too, may find a keeper.
