This was a beautiful story. It was sad, but still had a glimmer of hope at the end. Poor Gaara. That little bit of kindness that Iruka showed him had an impact on his life.

It wasnt apparent at the time, but I like to think that even tho Gaara's memory was rearranged, his heart never forgot. He may have decended into madness in his later years, but I like to think that the fight with Naruto sparked something in himself that was thought lost a long time ago. After all, Iruka was Naruto's teacher and the first person to show him love. Naruto always carried apart of Iruka with him and he was able to share that with Gaara. The mind might forget, but not the heart. Iruka should be proud.

That's so depressing. I'm glad Gaara got a tiny moment of happiness though, even if he doesn't remember it. I can understand Asuma's view though.

Oh snap!My eyes are tearing! Man, i was really hoping that Gaara, Iruka, and Naruto would stay in Kohonaha...you broke my heart! But never the less, this was awesome and tied together was definitely bittersweet but great. You also have a very good sense of characterization. It seems like something our favorite nins would it up!

If you don't mind me asking, could you do a oneshot or a short story concerning Kurenai's reaction to Iruka's revelation in the last chapter(the owl, and Gaara remembering Iruka from somewhere), or maybe Iruka (and the other ones who were there) reacting to the news of Gaara's death and subsequent resurrection)? Please?
