I wasn't expecting much when I started this. I didn't quite believe Kirk would be so openly ogling the legs of one of his bridge crew. But, this has turned into such a great story. It's so well written, too. So, many times I've laughed out loud. And, the whole realisation that Kirk and Spock might have / probably did have a romantic relationship in that other timeline? Was out of left-field. But, made so much sense too. My favourite line?: "he watched her go in silence, and looked at her legs as she went out of spite". Genius.

I love Uhura, but the destiny is inexorable?
I'm not a writer, I'm only a compulsive and amazed reader, but I can understand the difficulties that might meet writers, the white page problem, the real life... but i would love to read a sequel to this story if you decide to write one :)

Thanks for this great look into the beginning of the friendship between Kirk and Uhura. There's not much written about that, especially given their rocky start.

This story is great, and I like how you put Uhura on Tarsus IV. That actually gave me this idea I have for a story some time in the future, so thank you.

Well, I wish in this case, destiny will still win in the end.

I'm not going to lie. I had to skim through a lot of the cave scenes. There's a lot of fat that could have been trimmed there. I think you could have done the same story in three long, but tightly-written chapters... and it would have been a better reading experience.

My gripe is that you got the pacing completely wrong in the earlier chapters, thus placing the emphasis in the wrong place. The last two chapters were really good and the last few paragraphs were excellent. That look between Spock and Kirk? Now that's the real story... it's just been buried. You really should have started there, given the reader a real sense of mystery and then worked your way back. It would have been interesting to start with a sense of "are they? Or, aren't they? What's going on with those looks?". It would have been good to feel Uhura's growing sense of panic and defeat before working in the back story etc.

I feel you've missed a trick here. But, the concept is intriguing. Although I mainly ship S/U, I am fascinated to see where you go with this.

This was an awesome tale. I really felt that both Kirk and Uhura were in character the whole time, which can be tricky in this sort of high-stress situation. Well done on that! I also quite liked Jim's determination not to come between two people who are attached, no matter what anyone else might say or think on the subject. It's a good indicator of his character, and I was pleased to see it. Also, your line at the end about hacking destiny was absolutely brilliant! Very much looking forward to sequels/follow-ups. Hope you get some time for writing and that all goes well for you IRL.

Yeah, but Spock and Kirk are soul mates. I don't mean romantically, but more in the way of good, everlasting companions. The meaning it had before modern times made it all about sex.

Exactly the meaning Thy'la had. Brother, lover, friend. It could mean all of them, one of them, or any combination. People just focus on the lover part.

Love your fic especially how surprised Kirk is, when Uhura tells him about why she fears for her realtionship with Spock.

I don't know how I missed this before since I pretty much devour any Kirk & Uhura fic I can find, but wow, VERY nicely done. I adore your characterizations, and how Uhura comes off through Jim's POV here seems just right and is both fun and unexpectedly touching in some moments.

Definitely eager to see if you continue with this. I, for one, am hardly opposed to the K/S/U hints you have going here, whether you intended that or not (hehe).
