Nice demonstration of transition, whether in terms of time, generation, or the teacher-student relationship. Love the concept of ownership in this; it's reminiscent of how Konoha shinobi's loyalties to their village and senseis extends to taking on their children of their senseis as students. Like in the case of (Jiraiya-)Yondaime-Kakashi-Naruto. This unspoken unspoken legacy is surely it's what keeps Konoha so bonded and tightly-knitted; senseis passing on the Will of Fire and what they believe to their students...

Liked Temari's secret method of countering Shikamaru's moves, and how you illustrated growth of Asuma's kid, and how it moved Shikamaru so much. Especially appreciated the significance you let his maturity play; he was afterall the one who managed to talk sense into Naruto about grieving, moving on and bringing up the next generation... A tough and admirable job indeed!

Though for Shikamaru to be moved to tears... I wasn't expecting it, but I guess letting the sense of time get to you might have this effect on many people!

Interesting how you let the title work subtly rather than come across strongly; though it felt a little strange to me, it seems fitting for its nature ;)
