Not sure about Nicholas Eavs, but Pilgrim was Grace's horse in the Horse Whisperer book.
I was hoping to find a fic with horses, but I kept saying to myself that it wasn't going to happen. Then I walk right into this fic and I thought,"Wow!"

very few people manage to intergrate horses into scifi or trek, they just stick it in and expect it to work. you however have managed to intergrate horses and to reveal more about kirk which is very skilled. lovely scene. primal

Wow, amazing story. I love the detail descriptions of the horses. It’s so rare to read an author who can describe things with a sense of knowing. Usually there are a few typical words that suggest someone just did a little Google research, but there’s really a feel for the horses and the whole essence of being a Whisperer in this fic. I love it.

I’d just throw out, as “Did you know” sort of factoid, that male Vulcans have a dulled sense of smell. Female Vulcans are on par with humans (possibly more acute, I’m not sure), but male Vulcans can’t smell as well as humans. Their sight and hearing are definitely sharper. It’s one of those overlooked tidbits, like how Vulcans are actually cooler than humans according to canon.

Haha. Sooooo. I initially clicked this story as a joke to see what a "western" Star Trek fic would be like, and MAN was this unexpected! This was really great! You really had no fear about jumping right in and analyzing deep inner motives others would shy away from. Awesome fic, I really enjoyed it, and am glad I was proven wrong! -off to read the sequel-
