There's two things in particular I enjoy about this fic: Inara finally giving into Kaylee's suggestion that she ask Mal for a ride into town, and Mal being a complete hun dan when she does.

I can so imagine Inara being nervous in spite of herself as she goes to ask, from all of Kaylee's nudges and ribbing she surely is aware of what the outing could be. And then, because Mal doesn't quite pick up on what's really being asked (or maybe he does but is too nervous himself), he lashes out. DENIED! Then Inara puffs herself up to full condescending regal companion mode... And there we are, right at the beginning of your fic.

Tragic, frustrating, yet at the same time, strangely amusing to watch. I'm right there with Zoe and Kaylee.

Also, excellent mean-Mal voice.

This is sad and frustrating. Hope they can work things out better than this. As always, love your writing!
