I like your writing style but I don't think you should not have slang when Tai and Sora converse. I kept correcting it in my head whenever Tai said cuz instead of because. Maybe when Tai was younger he would have spoken in that fashion, but because he is now an older, married man, I sure he wouldn't speak like that. Either way it was a very well written first chapter and I can't wait to continue reading!

I already hate Shawn!

From an earlier chapter where it said that Matt saw a bruise on her back, I immediately guessed Shawn hits her/abuses her and I was right. So you have a great way of foreshadowing/giving clues.

And Shawn totally needs to go to one of those anger issues group.
