I’ll admit my familiarity with both series in this crossover is not detailed but I really loved this both as a premise and as a piece of story. The way you have captured the voice of each character as distinct people with different thoughts is fantastic. I love the amount thought you have put into the political climate of the world and how one can just imagine this alternate history from the details that you fit seamlessly into the character’s thoughts.
Also just the idea of Kenshin on dragon-back is a delight and a terror and completely awesome without even mentioning the thought of Kenshin fighting dragons with a sword and winning or at the very least not losing.

Sanosuke is the perfect dragon for Kenshin! especially when I was watching RK when Sano was going bodyguard for Kenshin in the Shishio Makoto Arc. perfect dragon sorashi pairing. more please? *notaro pleading eyes* if you have any goodies just sleeping in your hard drive, please share. :D

i wonder if Yoshi will be a dragon? or a captain? probably crew at first.. *sigh* i'd love to read more.. I am firmly on Laurence and Temeraire's side (though i don't like the Brits so much) so I hope they don't meet Kenshin et al at all. this fic made me read temeraire series. i'm just taking a break before continuing with book 9 league of dragons because book 8 blood of tyrants was just so exhausting...

Damn! I've read most of your fics, how the heck did I not get to this one until now?! I've been missing out. Of course, I seriously now want more of this story...::sigh::

I love the concept and the execution. The character voices and the historical details of the fusion are both really well handled. I'm guessing that 8 years later there probably isn't going to be any more of this, but all the same I'll be one more voice saying that I'd be happy to see more of this fic. It's a pretty piece of writing.

And Kenshin on dragonback is pretty much an instant win condition, isn't he?

Also, did you make Saitou a dragon as well? I think that is what the line was intending (I don't actually know Japanese, so sometimes I have to look up words) by the storm dragon reference.

Add me to the list of people who think this story should be continued. :D I love Kenshin's internal narrative. There's a brand of wry snark, but I think it fits him even at this time of his life. That's on top of the fact that it's great fun in and of itself. XD

Sano is enjoyable as well, but before I get to him I just wanted to comment on Kenshin's internal narrative the moment he grabs Sano for the first time. The 'soft' comment. I have no idea what it is about this line, but it always strikes me as a great sensory detail (yes, I have read this more than once).

Now, back to Sano being hilarious. XD Just his way of asking Kenshin to feed him is great, and does some great work with the implications to make the line entertaining.

In fact, a lot of the dialogue and internal narration brings to mind brief mental images of 'what if'. Far from being distracting like it could be, I think it's great. Koshijirou just begging for Kenshin to be /anything/ but afraid of heights is one of those lines, and I think it really helps readers, myself included, empathize with this character even though the POV is staying rather distant from any one person. Distinctive voices and not quite random, but very /normal/ thoughts (if that makes any sense at all) have a great synergy here. I guess what I'm trying to explain is that such mundane worries, there and gone, are really grounding for the 'realness' of these characters. I enjoy it alot.

How Sano's line about not being able to get two words out of Kenshin has the same effect, I'm not quite sure. XD But it does. The blithe tone really does cement his personality. Although I don't really recall such tone as much in his human form, at least not in that way, I think it's a completely appropriate translation of his base personality into 'newly hatched dragon'.

Although as I say that, it's been awhile since I read the manga, so there's probably more accuracy there that just isn't readily coming to mind.

Have I commented enough on the realness of the internal thoughts? All of Koshijirou's regarding Kenshin once he realized who he is are great.

Also, I read that final line, and fully agree with him. So much anticipation dragged out of me from a single sentence. It's impressive. I can feel the eager smirk on my face. I would /love/ to see some good fight scenes with Kenshin and Sano in this 'verse.
