So classic Japanese folktales say the sure way to become a ghost and haunt someone is to obsess about wanting to haunt that person while dying. I am totally envisioning Naruto finding out he accidentally became a ghost because his last thought was the resolve to haunt Sasuke. While that isn't his plan he'd totally annoy the shit out of Sasuke.

This was upsetting but well written.

You know, I can totally imagine Naruto being pushed into dates with Hinata sneakily from his mom. And he would be slightly annoyed saying he was already dead, and why the hell did she want grandkids anyway? Does that mean Sasuke would end up ruling the world?

I enjoy most of your stories. I enjoy this one (a couple I tried where I don't know one of the universes in a cross-over so those are a bit different). In any case I really like how -as you said- Naruto is "always trying to look on the good side of things." The mix of sadness and positivity is a potent combination.

This is a beautiful little fic. Serene in the face of his own death in the service of the rule of law is a good look on Naruto.
I too want to see ghost!Naruto haunting Sasuke. And taunting the new Hokage about having to do all that paperwork. And playing ninja with the academy brats. Even if they're only omakes.

I think the last line opens up possibilities for a full fiction.

I cracked up at the last line. That is so Naruto-ish, and you could definitely see that being his actual last thought. Great Story!

I'm the kind of optimist who believes the final scene with Sasuke saving Naruto from certain death was cut. To fit the tragedy genre.

Yeah, I know it was your intention to really execute Naruto, but he is so sturdy, so unbreakable that I honestly cannot imagine him dying for real. You know, the sky is blue, grass is green, the sun sets in the west and Naruto will get back up ni matter what kind of shit you throw at him or what kind of hell you throw him into. And he'll plaster that shit-eating grin on his face, put on his headache-inducing orange jacket and continue bugging Sasuke and pranking the world.

Besides, Sasuke may be a bastard but he is also obsessive. He would want to off Naruto himself, to win that epic long-expected landscape-altering battle between the Ultimate Rivals. And during that battle, the outcome and victor of which is very debatable, he would gloat and mock Naruto about having to save his life. And they would fight it out like they always have (been meant to).

Excuse the rant, but I kinda had to let it out. As for the story, it was great and I officially love your writing style (yeah, I read a few other stories you wrote). Not worship, because that title is reserved, but love, which is still pretty damn high on my author-totem-pole.

Especially the 'But nobody said it would be him.' line. That stuff is pure gold.
