Wow. That went way beyond anything Shinji could have expected. That deserves being slapped in the face, not... this.

And that's not even beginning to get into it from Rei's POV, which I don't think I can even adequately do. On one hand, it feels silly to commit suicide over high school rejection (especially sine he at least reaffirmed their friendship). But... if one has felt only numbness throughout their entire life, do not the slightest pricks of warmth and coolness become searing flames and freezing ice? If you have lived only in darkness, isn't the light of a candle as though a sunrise? And with her existing replacability and identity issues...

But damn. What the HELL has Gendo been doing to her? Any sort of withdrawal symptoms for any sort of drug are nasty, but how she starts feeling about herself when she starts coming off the drug is... evocative of something other than med-induced emotional instability, and much worse.

Okay, NOW you're starting to make me worried. I'm praying with all my might that Rei is just unconscious from the pills or is at worst in a semi-comatose state, because if you actually killed her, that is not only going to be insanely cruel, but that's also going to break our spineless little lover-boy's heart and mind. He's going to have a mental breakdown, blame himself for Rei's death, then commit suicide himself out of guilt. Or if they don't tell him and just replace her with a Rei clone, he's going to pick up on it soon, get depressed, and... well, I don't know from there.
