Foxy84 chapter 1 . 1/24/2018
AMAZING! I could not put it away. What an amazing story. Suzan Collins would be proud that she has an amazing person that loves her story. You could add something at the beginning a bit more about life and what they so in district 1. Otherwise it’s WOW!
Guest chapter 17 . 6/26/2016
This is really good I normally only read johanna fanfic but I thought I'd give it a shot and I'm glad I did. It sometimes physically made me laugh out loud but had such a powerful ending thank you
Guest chapter 17 . 11/25/2015
Wow. This is one of the best things i have read in a long time. My friend introduced me to your stories a few days ago and I have fallen in love with your writing and its style. The character development and the feel you put into this story. This is also the first time I've thrown my phone at the wall because of a story. I hate that Jewel had to die, but I guess it was better for her too since she doesnt have to live with the guilt of killing all those people. It took me about 7 hours to read this, and in that time I have fallen in love with all these characters and I felt like I really knew them. I cried at Rashnid's death and found myself shaking after Kayn had killed Skira and threw my phone at the wall when Jewel died and the story closed. The way you described Jewel's death made me almost feel like it wad happening to me. I also hate that Jak had turned out like that, that the parents of the district 9 tributes now have no children, that Rashnid had to die on his birthday, that Hulde bever got to come first, that Skira would never be able to give her sister another flower, that Jewel would never get to give Gleam her ring and that she would never see her parents or Pearl again, and that Kayn would have to live for the rest of his life with the guilt that he had killed the girl he grew up with. I have read a few fics about the first hunger games, but this is definitely by far the best one and I cant wait to see what else you write. Thank you so much.
Guest chapter 17 . 11/24/2015
This... Was such a ride. I can hardly talk right now, but seeing what happened, to Jewel and to everyone, was just amazing. I should have known it wouldn't end happily, but, I guess, it never would have ended happily anyway. I guess this ending is a better ending. Very fitting to the rest of the story. I love your writing style, it's really good and while it isn't quite as good as it could be, this was written in 2009 and your more recent fanfictions are much better. That isn't to say this isn't good, of course, because this is one of the best things I've ever read. To live through this... It's so terrible and yet so beautiful to see. I think it's better for Jewel this way. She will be able to deal with herself, she won't have to live with the guilt that comes with winning. But at the same time, she will never be able to go home, never be able to see Calem and Ayla get together, never be able to see Pearl again, never be able to give Gleam her ring. And it's... It's heartbreaking. This is a relatively short story but you have created such beautiful people, so deep and so... Real. I can't help but love them as if they aren't just charecters.

I hate this, I hate that Rashnid had to die on his birthday, I hate that Skira never got to give her sister another velvet flower, I hate that Hulde never got to first. I hate that Kayn had to lose himself in such a cruel way and I hate that the boy from district 9 had to lose his sister and that the girl from district 11 had to die so young. I hate everything about this but I can't hate this story. This is a work of art and I have never read something like it and I probably never will again. Thank you for this.

I've just finished reading this and loved it. Yes, I was surprised that Jewel didn't win - nice twist. There aren't a lot of good fics about the first Games IMHO and this one was great.
YourUnrealImaginaryFriend chapter 17 . 10/7/2015
I really enjoyed reading this story. All the characters were well depicted and entertaining, especially Jewell and her humour. There were some great twists, specifically this ending.
Josephm611 chapter 17 . 9/9/2015
Wow. I didn't see that end coming. This is just amazing.

Aww rip jewel
Blown away chapter 17 . 1/19/2014
Dear god, I do believe I like your story so much more than the original books! Jewel's character is just so wonderful and well written, as are all of the tributes. It's such a refreshing change to read about a main character who uses humor as a coping mechanism instead of being a total angstbucket all the time. Of course, I might be a little biased-Jewel's no-sense-moping attitude is pretty much me to a t, lame jokes and all, ha ha! (Not to mention I'm a big sucker for happy after-death reunions. Just...tearing up a little in such a good way here. And I'm not a crier at all.) 3
Aislynn chapter 17 . 12/28/2013
Hi, there! Wow! This is a great story: it really brinhgs home the horror of the Hunger Games, and what they do to the ones forced to participate in them, even more so because these are the first and the participants did not have any chance to prepare for them (even by watching the thing play out beforehand). The narator's voice is sound and absolutely believable, and I am awed by the way you manage to bring home the humanity of her as wel as of all the other participants. The way they try to keep it and they are losing it bit by bit, and the way that happens to them even without knowing it... well done. Marvelous fic! Thank you for writing!
gio-district7 chapter 17 . 12/14/2013
I randomly found this fanfic and i am so glad i did, its probably the best one i'v read. I was so worried when reading this chapter you began with an update on the last chapter so i thought you didn't finish or something but i'm so glad that wasn't the case. As much as i wanted Jewel to win i'm glad she didn't, i cried so much at the end. The characters were so well written and i enjoyed every single tribute you wrote about, especially Skira, Hulde, Rashnid and even that district 6 girl and the district 9 "sister-killer". I think most of all is that the story kept me laughing, the jokes came off as so natural and not forced. I just loved every minute of reading this and i'm so glad you wrote it.
Cookie Seller On The Dark Side chapter 17 . 10/20/2013
Aw. I actually cried at the end. I'd love to know how Kayn reacts to killing his best friend, though. Maybe you could do a one-shot sequel..?
Well done with this, it's amazing.

anon chapter 17 . 9/10/2013
omg omg omg NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Poor Jewel.

I actually feel sorrier for Kayn because he has to live with the guilt... what a sad ending.

Thank you for one of the best fics I've ever read... probably the first hg fic that has made me both laugh and cry. Keep up the amazing writing.
FriendlyFinnick chapter 17 . 7/27/2013
Whoa, plot twist.
It's written in first person but she doesn't win. Suzanne Collins should have done that, made it less obvious that Katniss was going to win.
jake chapter 15 . 5/18/2013
didnt see that coming. damn poor jak I liked him
