Great story! I enjoyed it!

This is just... so very lovely. I've always loved Mayhem On A Cross, the ending of that episode DOES THINGS TO ME. This is a beautiful and wonderful addition to that episode, and definitely my new headcannon. All the love to you and this little gem.

So as a new Bones fan, I've found your stories, and I adore them! I read your whole long explanation for why you no longer want to watch Bones, but I was just curious as to whether you've been watching this season (6). I've only been watching for a few weeks, plus a several reruns, but I think the show is returning to "vintage" Booth/Brennan, so...I don't know, if you haven't been watching, you should try again. Just the most recent episode, it was really amazing.

It was bitter sweet reading it knowing it might be your last...but still I am so happy for you that you managed to out your feelings for this lovely couple onto paper and work through the emotions of this season. I know you are firmly TEAM BRENNAN and it was really interesting to read her thoughts through your ideas. You really get into her head so well and this fic was no exception.

Your analysis of the two scenes was stellar and I can't help but adore the idea that Brennan is waiting for Booth...even though I firmly believe it's the other way around. :D I just think that the fact there are two sides to the argument, that it might be Booth or it might be Brennan...it just makes the possibility of their relationship becoming more so real...because if we can find reasons why Brennan is the one struggling as well as Booth then surely both are somewhat ready!

she buries her head in the crook of his neck and wraps her arms around his waist, feeling his heart pounding fiercely against her own. She's not sure who's comforting whom at this stage, but she knows that Booth needs this just as much as she does, and she bites her lip when his arms tighten around her,

Beautiful image! You are totally right that she is often the one to initiate contact. I'd never noticed it until you mentioned it. Sure Booth touches her back and leads her in a gentlemen like way but she was the one who kissed him. :)

Ok, just have enough time for a quickie...oh...& this review too! ;-)

Your writing, as always, manages to wrench all of the emotions from me. The heartbreak at what Brennan endured during her time in foster care, dragged kicking & screaming, thrown into a car trunk...& then her futile pleas to be let out *sniff*... yep, pulling at those heartstrings. What was even sadder, was the fact that she thought that she was partly to blame for what happened.

**“If it wasn’t for my Grandfather, I probably would have killed myself when I was a kid.”

...loved the way that you wrote Brennan, after hearing Booth say this, she was questioning herself, questioning why she had never really given too much thought to Booth's past, what pains he had suffered - both emotionally & physically...was she selfish?...did she not care enough to push him to open up as he did to her?...was she incapable of earning his trust?...all of these thoughts & emotions quickly passing through her mind.

They both have their own demons, vulnerablitlies & insecurities...which brings me back to to my own personal observation, that underneath it all, B&B really are not all that different...they have both 'reached the depths of despair'...they are both damaged souls - but they are not BROKEN BEYOND REPAIR - they have each other...& it is to each other that they make these revelations:

**They’re supposed to be doing this for Sweets’ benefit, but Booth directs his confession only to her.

...the looks, the tears, the touch...once again Sweets is superfluous, it's almost as if he is not in the room with them.

**she hastily dries her eyes and impulsively reaches out to deposit Booth’s handkerchief back into his breast pocket, because she finally understands that he needs someone (something) to soak up the remnants of his pain, too.

...perfect!

Loved the metaphor.

Loved the way that despite Booth's own memories, his concern is for Brennan. He was unable to put the dish back together in order to save her the anguish of the time spent in the trunk...now all he can do is to try to help put her back together, just as she does to the victims that come to her in the lab.

Loved the way that Booth explained that to Brennan - that she is no longer clumsy.

Loved that you again briefly touched on Brennan's reaction to Booth's death - the way that this was handled on the show, never sat comfortably with me.

Loved the ending of this chapter...feeling each others pain, re childhood experiences...the comforting hug...both offering comfort & support to each other...then ending, in contrast to this...the smiles, the happiness, the dancing.
