Love this sweet family story. Would be even better with a prequel and a sequel.

I actually read this on Academy of Bards and was going to send you an email. This is such a lovely story. I read it before bed along with Melissa Good's "Circle of Life" when Dori is born and between these two stories was dreaming about the little girl. Pleasant dreams.

The loss of a child is never easy, and being Xena's child means having a bulls-eye on you for that. Since her enemies would love nothing more to cause her immense pain. Yet Lycea and Gabrielle are healing her wound, little by little.

Little Lycea is too smart for her own good. Obviously she's a gift and we know how hard it is for Xena to except a gift without thinking it will turn into a distater or that she doesn't deserve it. Gabrielle seems to accept Lycea more readably as her child, and certainly Xena must appreciate that Gabrielle is a natural mother. But I perceive that Xena is just holding onto some guilt that she abandoned Solon, for a greater good. Her enemies would have killed Solon, if he had not died another way. But it seams that Lycea is beginning to heal those doubts in Xena. She has her own little spirit and it seems to fit into our hero's lives. Way to short though. hehehe :D
