Wow, this was a really nice story, I never read an story where Bruce in from the working class really amezing, and a nice twist ending in a dream

I'm almost tempted to say that should be labeled "tragic". I've seen some ficsepisodes that examined the idea of live parents, but never middle class Batman. Well...heh, go to deviantart and search "middle class batman". I think you might be amused.

Gorgeous. I cried. I'm reviewing and putting this on my favorites because excellent oneshots always deserve more publicity.

That was *amazing* and so insightful. I treasure the idea that Dick can dream of a simple, ordinary, well-adjusted life and see the beauty of it and yet choose the life of pain and sacrifice that scars him and the people he loves but ultimately makes their choices and losses meaningful, virtuous, even heroic. I love that he finally articulates for himself what it is about Bruce that he admires and loves - the inflexible, unshakable moral standard that he forces himself and his family to live by; the fearless, uncompromising unselfishness, the denial of vengeance in a vigilante calling. I like that Dick trusts Bruce's judgment because it is so personally unforgiving and painful, so pure.

I really love the last lines. I think my favorite was:

'I need you in the Cave,' he says, voice just as hard as Dick needs it to be right now.

You write these characters with great subtlety. Thank you!

Very impressive, and touching. I like how you create the alternate-verse, imbue it with character and interest in and of itself, but then you don't stop there, but instead use it to then speak back into the canon universe as well. An extremely well done piece.

I don't know exactly how I feel about this piece. A sizable part of me wishes that this had been the set up of an AU story instead of just a dream. How would Batman operate without the financial resources that he takes for granted in the 'normal' continuity? It gives me pause to think and -that- makes this an exceptional story.
