Reviews for The Beat Generation
BlackxValentine chapter 7 . 12/29/2009
I hope you'll update this soon. It is a very good story and I can't wait to see how it all ends for poor Dean and his family..

so sad he ran away and the man telling his parents to just forget him.
Katseester chapter 7 . 9/7/2009
oi. OI.

when did you post this?

YOU NEVER TOLD ME YOU POSTED IT. WHAT THE EFF.

Dean's parents are douchebags. I hate them. and I hate the reverend too.

...

is Nate never to be seen again?

I THOUGHT HE WAS SPOSED TO HELP IN HIS ESCAPE, HUH?
Old Fiat chapter 7 . 7/23/2009
Aw, poor Dean's mum! She's going to miss him. :(

I like the A/N, by the way. :) I think it's interesting that a lot of Dean's problems don't seem to rest with God-who he just doesn't get-but with authority figures, like Rev. Mills.

A lot of the Reverend's dialogue and opinions seem to work very well for the character. I've met guys like that and they're depressing and countre-productive. :/

Love this story and can't wait for the next chapter!

Cheers,

Lavenderpaw chapter 7 . 7/21/2009
Sorry I haven't read this yet, didn't know you'd updated.

Great Scotts but this was good! Dean's really done it this time, hasn't he? :/ Poor kid. I feel sorry for everyone who isn't Nate and Reverend Mills. It really shows how horribly brain-washed some people can get, and how hypocritical some people can be. Does the Reverend even 'know' he contradicts himself? Driving a fancy car, stuffing his face...? I bet he didn't even say Grace. lol. But seriously, I like this story.

Keep it up.
Katseester chapter 6 . 7/7/2009
oh, wow, Dean takes such a pessimistic and savage view on the world.

well, on Paxton, at least.

and way to wait for me to beta it.
Lavenderpaw chapter 6 . 7/7/2009
Very interesting chapter. I don't like the Reverend that much, but I don't think Dean's parents are bad. They just don't really understand how different Dean is, and while Nate better understands Dean he uses 'his' own influences to try and turn Dean his way. It's odd.

Dean parent's truly care about him but don't understand him. Nate understands him but I don't think he truly cares about his friend. Maybe he'll meet someone who embodies both those qualities... hmm.

Also, I notice how you sometimes leave off a third period in your sentence trails. No real big deal, but maybe add three.

LP.

I love this story. I wish Dean weren't so... bitter, though. It just seems like he's judging an entire section of philosophy by some barely trained pastor and a bunch of stuck up small-towners. :/ It's interesting, though. I really like this story.

Ooh... what's going to come next? What is he going to experience first hand? I can't wait for the next chapter!

Cheers,

btw, if you're into the film "Hairspray" at all, I'm writing a new story with it called "At Last" which has only two reviews but is pretty damn good. Anyway, just mentioning (promoting, whoring).
Angsty Anime Star chapter 5 . 6/17/2009
So I watched Iron Giant today at school and the first thing I thought was that i love Dean. I mean, I'm a character freak. And he's awesome. So I search for some fanfiction hopeing to find something including him and I find this wonderfully writen back story. Amaziingly epically awesome! You are a wonderful writer and you capture Dean's personality amazingly well. His uniqueness and questionabitly (that may not be a word) it in character, and though it may be odd, well, I suppose that depends on your religios and ethical beliefs. Another thing I love, being as my oppinions are strongly similar to the ones portrayed in your story. Well back to the story itself, the writing is phenominal. You are a writer. There wasn't much an error i caught, the word choice was vivid and acurate, and i have absolutely no critisism once so ever. The begining of the story was catch and the events move at a well pace. The transition are smooth. Really, I am extremely looking foward to reading more of this. Phenominal work and origonal wonderful idea. xD
Lavenderpaw chapter 5 . 5/15/2009
Well written, my friend. You've captured a very trying time in Dean's life where he's looking for all the answers and just not sure of what to believe. Everyone's intentions are at least in part to help him, and yet everyone has their own bias agendas and methods. Everyone knows how Dean ends up in the movie, but this is certainly a well-thought-out story.

A few minor mistakes, nothing tradgeic.

Will we meet more about Dean's love interest?

Very good chapter! However, I think it's written "no-goodnik," with that perpetually retarded Russian suffix.

I really like this story and I like the way you're developing the characters, it's very neat. I was so glad to see this story was updated. :D

I can't wait for the next chapter! Please update soon!

Great new chapter! XD
Lavenderpaw chapter 4 . 4/13/2009
Hmm... Dean's religious journey has taken an interesting turn. This Nate is a character himself. Not all good, not all bad. I can Dean's just really mixed up about where he belongs. Great job with his backstory so far. I spy an occasional error.

"and Nate watched as Dean’s face become subtly quiet"

That's pretty much it. Update when you can please. ;)

Lavenderpaw chapter 3 . 4/3/2009
Ah, man. I hope Dean knows what he's getting himself Nate guy may be more then he's bargaining for, but we'll see.

At least he turns out all right in the original movie. ttyl.

Old Fiat chapter 4 . 4/3/2009
Aw... poor Dean. Crises of faith suck. I like Nate's music selection and I feel kind of bad for Dean's mother. She seems to be really trying to figure out how to make both her son and father happy.

It's strange that Dean can so quickly brush off religion but hey, whatever.

I really love this story and can't wait for the next chapter! Do please update!
Old Fiat chapter 3 . 4/2/2009
Oh I love this story! I like the way you write Dean, though he seems quite cynical for a 14 yr old. I like this character, Nate. He reminds me of Ben Quick from "The Long Hot Summer"-really hot and really dangerous.

This is really, really a good story. There were some spelling mistakes but nothign major, I'd just suggest some proofreading, but that's just a suggestion. I'll read the next chapter later, though, because I've got some sewing to do.

Cheers (and thanks for the review reply!)
